man looks like i left just in time with regards to this game.. caught the 1st and it sounds like they left the building after that

No one is saying that Clifford and Andy are the main reason the Kings are losing, but I think some legit questions can be asked about what kind of lineup the Kings are icing right now and what type of team they want to be. It's a small sample size but the numbers are glaring and it's fair to question if either is really helping the team.

With Andy in the lineup the Kings are 14-12-3
With Clifford in the lineup the Kings are 4-6-3
With both in the lineup the Kings are 1-4-1
With both out of the lineup the Kings are 7-0-0
With Jokinen in the lineup the Kings are 11-5-2

The issue is keeping the puck out of the net. Clifford is playing about 9 minutes a night but has been on the ice for 5 goals against in the 4 game losing streak. And as far as toughness and intimidation, Doughty got run to end last season and in the past 5 games Doughty and Kempe were both hit with cheapshots resulting in suspensions, so what is the point in having guys like this on the ice?

People love the vets too much to realize that this new style the kings need both AA and Clifford gone. They can't have slow grinders with minimal skill anymore. Just doesn't work anymore.

I don't know what's going through Stevens mind. Either play and ice a line up to support the kind of style you want to play... Or continue to put talentless grinders and force them to play a system they can't.

Stevens needs to take a look at himself cause this starts with him right now and the team.

What's even worse is that the grinding system they're playing again doesn't work anymore since it puts more pressure on the defenseman. What made us successful this season is purely offense. The more we had the puck the less chance the other team had to expose our lackluster defensemen.

In the 7 games at home against the Pacific, the only game where Jokinen and Brodzinski both played was the first Ducks game with no Getzlaf or Kesler. Andreoff got popped by Bieksa in that game, so those two played that much more, and Andreoff played that much less. That was the only game of the 7 they won, but they barely scored one real goal, and those two had nothing to do with it. Even the one game Carter played in, they lost in OT, because Tkachuk came in and scored 2 goals.

Take out the pathetic home display against Pacific teams, and since the season ended after that Carolina game, they're 4-5-1. That's not good, and that won't get them to the playoffs either, but if they weren't 0-2-1 at home against division teams, it wouldn't be as bad.

23-11-3 in games other than at home against the division. That's 109 points in 82 games. 18-11-2 without Carter. That's 101 points over 82 games.

The whole team gets outmuscled at home against the division. Nobody but Brown and Kopitar have more than 1 goal at home against the division, and Toffoli has exactly 0 points. They don't get leads, and when they do, they can't hold them. As far as I can tell, they have the worst points% against a division opponent on home ice in the entire league.

At least they're consistent. Speaking of consistent, they were good at giving away points to division rivals last season as well.

Outscored 37-19 in those 10 games.

Edit: To make it even more fun. The only win came with Budaj in net. And, Burns has 6G and 13pts in the 10 games, while Pavelski has 8G and 12pts. Both of them had 0 points in the 2 games in LA this year, but the Sharks still won anyway.

Edit: To triple down on the fun, Doughty has 1G and 4pts, and Kopitar has 1G and 3pts, in the 10 games.

Would love it if the fact that they put Jokinen on waivers was because Carter was ready to come back. One can dream

They definitely need better performances from Doughty, Kopitar, and Quick in these games.

The Fourth line plays even less under Stevens than Sutter. Stevens is way faster to shorten the bench.

Folks....It's your top three lines that make or break a game.

waive jokinen? you f***ing kidding me?

inexplicably bench one of your better 4th line center options, take him out of every possible position to succeed, then waive him? wtf. him and mitchell were a great 4th line pairing

There is merit to question playing Andreoff/Clifford together or, to the extreme, even at all; however, they aren't losing all of these division/conference games because of the 4th line.

This is a bit like last year when some posters wanted to rail on McNabb, Lewis, Clifford etc...while Kopitar was cruising to 12 goals. The best players have to be much better in these games: especially the second line.

Especially when Stevens is really quick to shorten the bench. I think the average ice time for the 4th line VS the Pacific is around 7-8 minutes.

It's not like the fourth line is playing 10-12 minutes in these games.

It's real strange; get rid of AA or KC. Jussi wasn't a problem.

Frankly it's almost inexcusable to be below .500 at home. You get the match-ups you want for crying out loud(last change). Every NHL team should be darn near dominant at home.

Might be my fault since I've been there for every loss, save for this past Saturday when I was out of town. Every other home game I've missed this season, they have won.

Ive stopped watching the last couple weeks. They were losing whenever I’d bother finding a stream, so tried breaking the jinx. Seems more likely now that neither I, nor this team, are particulalry special.

Actually, it looks to me like the Kings have reverted to the 16-17 version that relies on grinders and dump-and-chase hockey. They're not playing a system they can't, they've just abandoned their system altogether and gone back to the boring version.

You waive Jokinen but keep AA and Clifford? Wow. Did DL become GM again?

It seems that way, there's zero methodology in their attacks, it's extremely scrambled.

On top of that we just waived Jokinen who has more talent than AA and Clifford in his pinky.

He was solid.
