GDT: GM: 420 Habs @ Caps - 7:08pm EST

Im not sure if we will run practices during 4N but it could be a mini training camp and a prefect time to tweak and teach a system
idk whether there's a collectively bargained break for 4N, during which teams are forbidden from holding official practices or workouts. does anyone have this info?

The consistently low SOG game after game make me think this is a systems issue. Teams have been watching Caps footage and made tweaks to their own play.
I think it's more execution. To a man they're not as tight and are a lot lazier and more reactionary rather than looking to dictate. It's a struggle but it seems like more of a focus and work ethic issue rather than them being tactically disadvantaged.

Part of it's likely also a sense that things would come easier again once The Big Man returned. They've collectively slacked thinking they've got more rope again...but that's not how it works. They still need to maintain defensive urgency and then good things will happen with more possession. Either way, with Strome and McMichael both fading off there could be a lot of nights like this. They're keeping it close and picking up points but their play has dipped considerably.

I didn't think Frank was that amazing but he did leave his positive mark on the game and supplied a spark. 1v1 battles along the boards are going to be a problem without a lot of adjustments. Physically he still looks overmatched at this level. In another game it could have just as easily been Vrana making a play. But, again, 17/24 really need to get going and they need to tighten up defensively. Relying on goaltending and/or a ~40 year-old to carry them isn't it. Going back out on the road is probably good for them.

Congrats to Frank!
Was very visible and used that speed, disrupted some plays and a nice dish for point #1

Protas deferring with the OT pass... wasn't it the same story with him on one of our 1st OTL losses? when LT didn't leave the crease and Tavares got the otgwg?

Couldn't follow game. Socal fire is getting far too close to my house!

If Lindgren has a concussion, then our goalie depth be tested. Hunter Shepard sux and Clay Stevenson does not even look ready to temp backup LT. Depending on projected injury time period on Lindgren, we might have to acquire a goalie on waivers to backup LT!

Frank showed the energy and drive in his first game that I want Miro to show (obviously you’re going to be super hyped and want to show your best for your first game). Like I’ve seen others say, Miro often seems like he’s thinking more about not wanting to make a mistake than making an impact. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Miro and think he’s going to be a good NHL player. But good for Frank getting a really noticeable assist, not just with the speed but with the little puck move before the pass as well, happy for him.

Speaking of puck moves, Chychrun keeps pulling little moves out of a hat to avoid pressure at the blue line, especially on PP’s. I was noticing it last night, he’s a pretty slick player

People chill. The team has had a penchant for playing to the opposition recently (I posted this half a dozen games ago or so), and while that hurts against teams like the Habs etc, they have been beating really solid teams as well.

So (shrug)

Maybe that's a league wide problem. During the Habs 8-2 run, the wins have come on the road against Florida, Tampa, Vegas, and Colorado before Washington.

.... and the losses were against Columbus and Chicago.

Montreal has taken down some top teams as of late and the Caps are still chipping away points in the standings, there is nothing to stress about right now. A little mid season adversity is better than late season. Id still like our team in a 7 game series to any of these recent OT loss matchups.

Based on what we've seen so far, how could you not trust Carbs to accomplish that? Patience.

The way we started was just wow. Anything less was bound to disappoint. Top 6 and 4th line were so tight.

I only watched pieces of game but I like what I saw from Frank. He is good with his stick defensively although he did pick up a penalty because of it.

I’d like to see mangiapne at 3LW with Eller and Frank. Raddysh on 4th line.
