Speculation: Is J Toews looking to make a comeback this year?

The Canucks of all teams would probably welcome him, they need more character guys and he'd quiet a lot of noise in the room, they're sorely needing some true veterans.

Playoff experience, proven winner, more center depth are all things Tocchet and Allvin like, there's a reason they looked at adding Kessel last year late in the season.

This is all assuming he can still play hockey.
 
I think Edmonton would be pretty high on his list considering team status and their depth chart. They need to upgrade on Derek Ryan with a guy that aces faceoffs, kills penalties and doesn't get buried by third and fourth line matchups.

That being said, it's tough coming back after two seasons off.
 
There is no shortage of rumours surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs and the latest one comes from Frank Seravalli. about Jonathan Toews.

In a recent appearance on Sport on Prime Canada, Seravalli discussed the possible return of former Chicago Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Toews has been out of the game since 2023 after playing in 53 games for the Blackhawks.

Wouldn't he go through waivers at this point? I thought you had till like the end of December to sign people where they don't have to go through waivers.
 
He really shouldn't do this. Unless his stamina improved dramatically, he has a really hard time keeping up with the play the last half of his shift.

His interviews reported having chronic inflammatory response syndrome. As someone going through something similar, at a similar age, I can say it takes everything out of you without doing anything. Let alone being active. I can't imagine how difficult it would've been for him to physically or mentally stay in playing condition. If he's really gotten through it, then he probably feels like a new man.

Tazer is one of my all time favorite players. I truly hope he is feeling better (and wish the same for you too). I just don't want him to come back and be steps behind.
 
I’d take him in Edmonton in a heart beat. If he can play, even half of what he used to be, he could help us in the 4C role, and if he finds even more of his game he can be 3C or be a wing for one of McDrai.

Captain Serious seems like he’d fit our locker room nicely too. A mature, no-nonsense, no drama, lockerroom focused solely on hockey and winning. McDrai would welcome him with open arms. And we’d give Toews a chance to win in an environment that has always shown to be patient with players coming off injury. See Connor Brown. And see Corey Perry and Derek Ryan as examples of older players who’ve found succcess and a role on a Cup contender.

A knowledgeable hockey market and fanbase that appreciates him for his hockey outside pure production would be great for him as well. As his contributions will likely be in the the “intangible” territory moving forward.

There’s connections to Edmonton too that could give Toews good reviews of playing in Edmonton. With Duncan Kieth working for the organization. And also Stan Bowman now running things. Toews to Edmonton makes a lot of sense.
 
He’s done for. He left the game to heal, heck he even went to India to find himself and he’s at ease with what he’s accomplished. I think he’s done for.

I can't imagine him signing with the Maple Leafs.

The only reason that Toews would comeback would be to prove to himself that he can do it and to win a Stanley Cup. Toews, quite obviously, knows what it takes to win and the kind of buy-in, sacrifice and commitment required to get through the gruelling playoff battles and win it all.

I can't see him looking at the Leafs vaunted "Core 4" and thinking he wants to be part of that. I think they would be right at the bottom of his list.

I suspect he would be looking at a team like Edmonton, that proved last year they have the horses to get to the Final and have a core with a track record of winning series and performing in the playoffs or a club like Colorado that he knows have guys that will pay the price and have won before.

If he is going to roll the dice on a team that hasn't proven they can get there yet, I suspect it would be the Winnipeg Jets.

Knowing what I know about Jonathan Toews, I would be pretty shocked if he had any interest at all in the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Just out of curiosity. How could you possibly pretend to know anything about him, what he would want or where he would play? Has he ever said anything about preferred destinations?

did you have “going to India for alternative medicine” in your list of likely outcomes. Can you point to posts on that?

Would be wants to play. But those wants are often over ridden now by tax breaks. Or at least you have to equalize the payments
