Remains to be seen. It's not like he is tearing it up in the minors. Don't get me wrong, LaDue appears to be making good progress, but it's a long way from where he is to 18 minutes a night in the NHL.
I said capable of and guess what he actually has 2 times last year. (buffalo and nashville ) and a 19 min 38 secs against Washington to make 3 over There is also another game of 17 56 that is pretty close

You blame Forbort for a lot.

I understand what you mean because that was my initial thought as well after watching that goal but than I checked it again.

Lets assume he was standing a little more to that side and the goal was scored by Couturier (#14), than it would have been his fault as well. It was kinda lucky that the puck went to Voracek, via Doughty’s foot.

For a dman taken in the first round, ahead of Tarasenko, I expect more. It just seemed like he had nobody to cover on that sequence. Even before the puck got to Voracek, it seemed he was overcrowding an area that already had two Kings covering.

Not faulting the goal on him, but more of a critique of things that need improvement, especially when the PK has been allowing goals consistently of late.

Yea he's not living up to expectations more than anything, given how good he was at times last year.

I know Forbort will make mistakes, but what worries me more is he makes them every game. He was nails when he first came up, now it seems other teams know how to exploit his weaknesses more. For an above average skater, he is behind on the play a lot. He doesn't have the higher skill of a Muzzin where he will make a terrible play but then string 5+ really good ones in a row.

Hot garbage? That's an overreaction. LaDue wasn't sharp during camp, that is for sure. But he was not "hot garbage." LaDue has shown that he can be a top 4 defenseman in the NHL. Like any other young defenseman, there are going to be inconsistencies in his play and issues that need to be corrected. I haven't watched him in Ontario, but if he is putting in the work and doing well, I would like for him to get another shot this year now that Folin is down.

LaDue has not shown that he can be a Top 4 defenseman in the NHL: not yet anyways. That being said, he should definitely get a call-up with Folin nicked up. This is a good opportunity to get him into some games and see how he has progressed since camp.

As for this minutes issue, all of the D are capable for playing 18 minutes, it just doesn't mean that they should be playing 18 minutes. Just because LaDue did it a couple of times last season--or was close to it--doesn't mean he should be penciled in. I hope he gets called-up and pulls a Kempe, but I'm not just going to assume he's the second coming just because he's the best option in Ontario.

He's also a fifth year pro who will be turning 26 in March, and will be approaching eight years removed since his draft year. I don't think he should be making rookie mistakes at this stage. I don't expect him to be an offensive juggernaut, but I wish he was better than just average. He also has the worst shot I've seen in quite some time.

As a staunch Forbort defender I've been very disappointed in his uneven play this year and it's arguable that his lack of progression and struggles with puck movement in the new system are the biggest problem we have on D. He can eat minutes with Doughty and his defensive play--stick at least and PK--are going to keep him in the NHL, but after showing he could be a top-4 type talent last year, he's regressed from that this year (in struggling with a different pace/style of play). We have clear tiers on D--Doughty / Muzzin-Martinez / Folin-Forbort-Fantenburg-MacD. Not at all opposed to seeing what LaDue can do at this point.

So in the last 3 seasons, Quick has only faced 35+shots only 16 times with those stats? Thats ridiculous

Defense in today’s nhl is played more with the stick than the body. Guys like Forbort are exposed out there and there is no way to mask it. A kid like LaDue is going to miss coverage, but it’s better to learn at nhl speed, he’s not an 18yo. But we’ll also get a guy who can hold a puck in on the PP and who can join the rush.
