MacDermid will only put his teammates on more PKs and make life even more problematic for the Kings goalies. He is not an NHL defenseman, and that has been well-established at this point. Let him rot in Ontario.

Your opinion on MacDermid needs to be taken with an entire salt mine due to your irrational hatred of him due to your Gull fandom.

- More PKs? Who cares?
- Goalie problems? Who cares?

Lose for Hughes. The argument that he isn't NHL caliber doesn't hold water when most of the roster doesn't look NHL caliber. Hell, if he can help solidify a bottom four finish, he actually helps this roster much more than any of the marginal 6/7 guys playing right now.

You are entitled to mischaracterize my motivations as you have chosen to do so - this is a discussion board, after all. That said, I'll wager I've seen Macdermid play more minutes in person, from the lower bowl, than the huge majority of his cheerleaders here. He's a punk that I don't want on my team. Funny how I don't seem to have an "irrational hatred" of any of the other Ontario prospects. But please, keep dismissing eyewitness observations made over four seasons. Enjoy.

Yeah, you don't want a guy on your team that has routinely initiated/responded to the numerous punks that the Gulls have run out there. The Reign are your favorite team's chief rival and MacDermid is the chief muscle. You also despise him for the huge open ice hit against the Gulls that he was suspended for and you were also trashing him for his great hit on Kase last season.

I know you've seen him play more than anyone here except Regulate. Doesn't change the fact that your opinion is colored by your Gull fandom. It's not an indictment of your hockey acumen or anything.

I've watched all of his NHL minutes and the majority of his preseason minutes. Nothing but a stand up guy playing an honest, tough game. I'm a Kings fan so I could care less if he ruffled your Gull feathers and I'm sure I speak for the rest of his "cheerleaders" and non-cheerleaders alike when I say that.

My childhood fear was Rob Blake being traded and going on to win a cup without the Kings

He's always been like that. The rest of the team in front of him used to be better than today, canceling some of that out. Which is why people have called him a system goalie. If other things around him are solid, he can be the athlete that he is, get himself out of position because of the way he plays, and make those crazy saves. You take the better team away from him, and the flailing, which has always been there, gets amplified.

Plus as the team has gotten worse, they give up increased amounts of quality chances. 5, 6, 7 years ago, Quick would have to come up with 1 or 2 huge highlight saves per game. The last few years, he has to come up up 2 or 3, or 3 or 4. In any given game, not a huge deal. It starts happening game after game, all year long, those shots will add up. Goals will start going in, simply because the puck finds a way into the net.

If Quick was a system goalie, and there's some truth to that, the Kings as a whole were a system team. Lombardi didn't build them on skill. Their version of possession was throwing the puck on net all the time.

You know it is trash when you look at the actual lineup.

MacDermid isn't going to significantly alter it lower but, if he did, even better. We'd even get something a little exciting from time-to-time.
