You know, beyond the "Voynov hole," the biggest problem with Forbort as Drew's partner--even if you like him--is the same problem with Rob Scuderi. Everyone knows he's throwing muffins out there, so he's just always open, and someone is always double-teamed--so every time the puck gets to Drew, it's either an easy shot block (not that they need the help) or the puck goes to Forbort and the play dies. He really needs Muzzin there.

if we string some wins together (sigh) and are competitive, a second pairing right shot defenseman should be our top priority

For me, it's not only does Forbort have a very poor shot, his passing is very bad. So he can't make those quick plays.

But that was on the 5 on 4 not 5 on 3.

5 on 4. I'd bet Kovalchuk has more one time PP goals there than Carter does. But it worked so good for Carter.

Yeah, the context is a bit different, but, so what? If Kovalchuk is an offensive weapon who should be in the Ovechkin spot, then he has to get his shot through on a 5v4 PP. Same way Doughty has to. Otherwise, why does anyone care what WD does with Kovalchuk on the PP? It's a 5v4, most PP's are. If Kovalchuk can't get his shot through on a normal PP, maybe Stevens had the right idea putting him in front of the net.

The only issue there is, what do you do with the other two pairings? Not that Muzzin makes the 2nd pair good in the d-zone.

One thing I really love about watching LaDue is his composure in his own zone. He is really good at keeping possession under pressure and finding room to make a play. As opposed to some of our other defensemen who seem to panic at pressure and try to move the puck immediately leading to turnovers.

Muzzin makes so many blunders for a player who has a rep of a 2-3 dman
