Still averaging over 3.2 goals a game.

I think we all expected Pius Suter and Connor Garland to lead the team in goals this year, but it will be nice when our secondary scorers like Miller, Boeser and Pettersson really start contributing.

Which is 12th in the league. Ie. above average. They were 6th last year, but obviously the hot start and unsustainable shooting played into that. They were 13th the year before that and 18th the year before that. Massively overrated was hyperbole, I admit. They’re deeper now and I think they can push the top 10 once Miller is bad and Boeser is 100%, but they’re not good enough to just run and gun and hope for the best. Maybe if they had a more competent puck moving D after Quinn.

You know what’s weird ?

Both Garland and Boeser requested a change of scenery (trade) then both retracted after it couldn’t be accommodated quickly. Now both are thriving….

I still wanna know what happened with Nate Schmidt and wanting a trade out of here 20 games after signing here. Odd.

This team gets massively overrated offensively even with Miller. They’re not a good passing team and Quinn is the only one of the D who can get it out of the zone effectively. They’ve never showed they can consistently score at a high level like the truly great offensive teams and part of that is they don’t have a McDavid or a MacKinnon. They’re an above average offensive team whose top 3 forwards are either missing or not 100%
I am pretty sure every team would struggle when top 3 forward are missing or injured

Missed the whole game while driving, caught the highlights. Hughes, Garland and Lankinen, what more can be said?

I still can’t believe Hughes fell to us where he did in the draft. After so many terrible misses and picks not turning out, we finally had one go our way, and he’s the best defensemen in the NHL. Amazing.

If everyone worked as hard as Garland, you’d have the best team in the NHL. He’s stepping up huge in the absence of others, too.

That’s what I was getting at. The poster was suggesting the team needs to play to its offensive strengths, but I think they get overrated when healthy and 100%, let alone where they’re at right now.

Yeah we don’t have the D or the center depth to go offensive right now.
The gameplan should be similar to last year, conservative defense, win the special teams and get offense off the forecheck.

Somehow the PP is producing despite looking super ass and the PK is mostly good so we should be able to get by until Miller and Demko comes back. See how the team plays after that and then trade for a D early Jan.

I fear he’s going to command 15M / year in 2 years from now.
He’s going to be worth every penny. The way he’s playing right now, you can throw him with like McWard and he’ll still win the matchup.

The Miller hazing rituals probably get out of hand

Considering the circumstances I think treading water is fine but they will need to pick it up / get healthy for when the schedule isn't Charmin soft.

Just finished watching. I'll forever know this as the Garly Game. The stacked-pad save assist is the most Connor Garland thing ever.

Big 2 points. Just get in is the motto this year.

Team defense looked good in the 1st two periods. The 3rd looked like they missed Hronek a lot.

That OT. Don't know if I've seen a team not touch the puck for the first 3 minutes like that. And that save.

At this point, Demko comes back to a back-up role. Lanky the best contract in the NHL?

Good road trip so far. Keep rolling.

Schmidt was traded to Vancouver, not signed.

The biggest what if's is if he went to Detroit instead of us.
Detroit messed that up big time since he was in their back yard too.

Moved next to Boeser but gets a career low in ice time. I think we might see his last game with us this Sunday

I like Nils, and I want him to find his way here... But when you only play 6min and your most memorable play was over committing and getting your ankles broken at the blueline by Byram, that does not instill confidence.

If Pettersson play offense like he has in the past, I think that kind of shifts things, but we've seen little of it for a while now and he seems intent on developing his defensive game. I think he's not shooting because he doubts his accuracy, and if he misses the net with that rocket, it ends up back in his own end, often on the stick of an opposing player.

It seems odd to me, because when he was an offensive force he always seemed very reliable defensively.

More dark times if we dont have Hughes.... very dark times.

I'm not sure actually - the Bubble run doesn't happen without Hughes, so it probably means Jimbo is fired earlier, Judd Bracket sticks around, and we have Petey/Boeser/Miller/Horvat/Dobson + 2 or 3 more high end first rounders + no OEL trade. It's an interesting what-if.

It's called multitasking. duh.

I'm certain he didn't shoot there because there was no shot. Daniel did this all the time. Better % play was to pass.
