Wonder why Stevens doesn't go 11F and 7D like Tampa, because whoever the 12th forward is for a particular game barely sees the ice.

From my seat I had a great view of the goal that was disallowed and it didn't even cross my mind for a second that it should be challenged and overturned. That was a Hail Mary challenge that the idiot refs somehow caught in the endzone for Tampa. When they showed the replay on the jumbotron we were even laughing about the defenseman sitting on Budaj it was such a nonsensical consideration. Waving off that goal and having to sit through the intermission basically killed the momentum. But oh well, I think when the teams match up a second time around, there will be a better game plan. Losing Kempe 30 minutes or so before puck drop totally discombobulated the lines. Hopefully 3 of our fastest if not thee fastest skaters on the team (Carter, Kempe, Gaborik) will be on the ice.

The biggest problem last night, and it was a horrible 2 minutes worth, was the fact that the Kings played that 4v4 situation like it was 3v3 in overtime. There was absolutely zero reason for our defensemen to activate so deep in the zone and take such risks in the 1st period. Drop passes, really? Martinez has done that a number of times. In the center of the ice, even. Have to be smarter than that. Another thing was the team just completely backing off the blueline in that 1st period. If your first contact with the puck carrier is at the top of the circles, it's too late. I understand that Tampa is fast, but you can't allow players to just prance their way to within 25 feet of Quick unimpeded. That all being said, the Kings were a bad bounce and a bad call away from tying that game up at 4-4 with center depth that included an AHL center not ready for the league and another center who was out of the league. Beat the Sharks on the weekend and all is forgiven.

With Carter and Kempe out of the lineup this game wasn't a good gauge of where the Kings stand against a team like the Lightning. I don't think the Kings have the skill to match up with Tampa Bay, and are going to have to come up with a strategy which clogs the neutral zone to cut down on their speed the next time they meet.

Tampa Bay is skilled, fast, and deep. The Kings will need more out of guys like Pearson, and hopefully Gaborik down the line in order to compete with them.

4:38 for Amadio. Other than MacDermid being thrown out of the game against the Ducks, Amadio has the 2 lowest ice times for the season, in the last 2 games. He wasn't supposed to play tonight, but why is he here? He plays less than Brodzinski and Auger on average.

The Kings are not gonna win any games if their second line center barely gets 5 minutes.

Even without Kempe, Carter and Gaborik we made a game out of it and the refs robbed the team of much needed momentum by disallowing the goal...
Also, I am very confused as to why Amadio would play so little considering the high usage of the top line... CJS really needs to lower those minutes for certain players... Also really disappointed with Amart's careless play with his risky passing plays down the middle ...

Amadio was essentially benched after the Hedman goal in the first period. This coaching strategy is very DS like, and we are see more and more a few players that JS trusts playing all the minutes. It's a long season and the burn out rate that we usually hit in Jan/Feb will come calling. Now, Amado was guilty on that rush on Hedman goal as he went over aggressively to play the opponent rushing up the boards from the TB zone (it was a 4 v4 at that point), but unfortunately Amadio lost and edge and wiped out, making it a 4 v 3 and Hedman scored on the drop pass. Toffoli was late coming back because he was pressing the attack in the TB zone and was below their goal line along the boards when the play transitioned. If Amadio had it to do over again he probably would have played it a bit more conservative, but it is frustrating to have him sit on the bench the rest of the game with Laich as your 2C as you're trying to come back from a 4 goal deficit. Yeah, Laich got a point, but only because a pass glanced off his skate, not for anything he did. You might as well send Amadio down and have him play 20 minutes a night in the AHL if you are going to punish him and have him watch the game. Feels like the same thing is happening with Dowd while the staff is enamored with Laich and Andreoff. Yes, on certain games you need those guys. Last night was not one of them. And Dowd played very well by the way.

Stevens needs to trust his players more. Playing them like this is unjust, and unsustainable.

Benching players for bad plays is a thing that NHL coaches do, it's not just a Sutter/Stevens thing. Sometimes there are teaching moments and it's better that they come at the beginning of the year that in the playoffs.

How could Brown and Sutter not even see eye to nose at least? Where has this Brown been? For 4 years, outside of moments here and there, where was he?
Brown finally decided to be a professional instead of moping after getting placed on the 3rd line. I'll give him a pass last season since it seemed like no one wanted to play for Sutter last season but what about the years prior? Brown played poorly, got demoted, and decided to just sulk instead of working his way back up. Pisses me off knowing how much better the Kings could've been the past 4 years if he decided to play hockey.

Side note, he's got to be one the laziest player on the Kings. Always the first guy off the ice for his line. Any time the opponent has a rush going the other direction he hops off the ice to avoid getting the minus. Last night 4 on 4 in the 3rd the Kings had a clear cut 3 on 2 that turned into a 2 on 1. Except Brown decided he wanted to get off the ice since he was next to the bench causing Lewis to be late and killing the 2 on 1 opportunity. He's definitely playing better this season, no doubt about that, but he annoys me with his laziness on the ice.

Former captains typically aren't considered lazy. Haters gonna hate I guess.

That's an... interesting? take I guess. In the past 4 years the Kings won the cup, btw.

What? If Brown is guilty of anything it's recovering from a f***ed up knee in 2013. I still argue it took him several seasons to recover from that. Then he had to rediscover his game because he had to confront the age problem as a player, something he admitted he hadn't considered until I think 2015? And then of course last year everyone seemed to suck.

So because he was a captain he's automatically considered not lazy? I guess it makes it pretty obvious then.

Yeah they won the cup but it's not like he had a good season. 27 points from your $6 million top liner doesn't really scream good year to me.

Wut??? Brownie has literally gone to war for this team. You think his punishing style is easy to maintain? And your 2nd paragraph is pure exaggeration. If Brownie did that, he wouldn't be rewarded with the 2nd highest TOI on the squad. I'll call a spade a spade when he's not playing well or not hustling, but that is certainly not a problem right now. Lets see how many Josh Manson crosschecks anyone else can absorb before they turtle into a hole. Or how many pucks someone else gets hit with by howitzers from the point as they try and screen a goalie... There is a lot of sacrifice associated with his job that makes it one of the toughest in the league.

Without knowing what communication has led to when he comes off the ice, it's irresponsible to infer he's leaving the ice early to pad his meaningless +/- stat or whatever other motives you want to manufacture.

A benching means everyone elses minutes go up. I realize nobody could replace his minutes, but then again, nobody makes as many stupid and costly mistakes per shift as Muzzin does.

As many mistakes as he makes he makes more good plays that wouldn't be made if we benched him. I would rather see mins reduced on forbort folin frattensberg and macdermid If you increase there mins ur ll get more mistakes then Muzzin makes
