I've come around with Kovy but I wasn't happy with the signing to begin with.

The long and short of it his he used Dean and the Kings for leverage in negotiating a ridiculously absurd contract with New Jersey, only to leave the Devils high and dry by reneging on the deal 2 years later.

Like I said I've come around but there were certainly some question marks.

I'm not throwing you under the bus, so I apologize in advance if it comes out that way.

But because of that tactic, the Kings weren't saddled with that horrendous contract, the penalty that came with it, and they were able to trade for Richards and later for Carter. This help in winning the 1st cup and allowed the trades for Regher and Gabby which helped in winning the 2nd cup.

I was originally angry when he signed in NJ. Once we beat the Devils (and Kovy) for the first cup, I was glad we didn't sign him. Him "retiring", the 2nd cup and then returning to the NHL and signing with the Kings was just gravy on top!!!

He needs a statue outside of Staples for his role in helping the Kings win 2 cups in 3 years!

Imo it's really boring if the wild score first. If kings get on the board first the wild cant sit behind their own net for 10 minutes....

I really liked the schaudenfraude of guys like Brad Richards, Kovalchuk, and obviously to a different degree Chara for choosing 'better' teams than the Kings. Whooping the Rangers with Brad Richards being an afterthought. Kovy had a bum back, but nice taking him down. Never had to deal with Chara directly. The 'what if' one for me is always Hossa; reportedly he had wanted a 100 point team, so went with the Hawks instead...Kings were a 100 point team that same year. And then of course had to deal with him head to head repeatedly. Guess we should be asking Hossa about his scouting!

I'm not implying that the outcome didn't benefit the Kings long term but we'll never truly know either way.

What we do know is how the guy behaved when people were counting on him. But it's water under the bridge, only pointing it out when everyone is throwing their hands up in disbelief that his reputation was earned on some levels. Similar doubts about Carter's character have been put to rest. Kovy's a King now and by all accounts he's worth the price tag with his performance on the ice and leadership off.

The Oilers need to get much better play from Nurse. Klefbom and Larsson are off to a decent start. Edmonton would be wise to look into hiring Q.
