We played great getting it ti 3-2 and carried play til the 4th goal. Bad calls and some weak goals and we unraveled. Doesn't bug me though, I saw jump from a lot of our team that I liked. Lankinen made some insane saves but also let in some softies when it mattered most. He obviously gets an absolute pass

Alright guys on to the next.

Pettersson coming around - that is enormous.

I really don't like Desharnais. Trying to be patient. He just has absolutely no puck management skills. Tocchet is trying to teach him to play the puck forward to up the pace of play so he adjusts by basically throwing every single puck up and off the boards for a dead giveaway. I don't know I just don't see it.

Meh. Thought the game was pretty much dead even through 45 minutes until the 4-2 goal and then the BS chintzy penalty immediately following it.

Reffing in this game still has me seething. McDavid barely touched? PENALTY! McDavid blatantly hauls down a Canuck multiple times in this game? Nothing. Does Quinn Hughes get the same superstar treatment when he gets blatantly dumped? Nope.

And I'll keep saying this : *every f***ing game* where we're leading 3-1 or 4-3 on the road the home team gets multiple chintzy game management calls in their favour to give them the opportunity to tie. And the reverse just does not happen to us in our home rink. And tonight was another textbook example where the road team is somehow getting the chintzy calls when leading.

Noah Juulsen is not an NHL player.

JT Miller had a rough game.

Pettersson actually looked like Pettersson tonight.
Again, Aquaman needs to double up on the hookers, blow, and bitching to Bettman. How do we think Jacobs got to this point?

Two consecutive blowouts at home......five more games on this homestand. The home record was so dominant last season, but off to a rocky start this year.

For whatever reason fatigue looked to be a serious problem at times tonight. A lot of guys looked like they were skating in quicksand. Hard to understand really. Their games so far this season have been pretty spaced out.

First game in a long time where the blueline just couldn't get it done. Oilers just chipped the puck in deep and forced turnover after turnover. Score could easily have been 10-3 if the Oilers had missed some tap-ins.

Trouble is the Tocchet requires so much energy from the players. There are just times they're going to hit the wall as the energy-level dips.

3rd Period
  • A couple of mistakes, puck went in the net, then lost their “juice”
  • Liked their 2nd period
  • McDavid started to get going and the Canucks couldn’t match it
Starts of Games
  • Not getting to their game early enough
  • A couple of guys have to understand how we got to play more predictable
  • Taking the puck back too much
  • Survived it after the 1st but need to make sure they stick to the gameplan
Defensive Penalties
  • Maybe some gapping
  • Really gapped up well on the road trip
  • Thinks that maybe some guys were a little tired tonight and that’s whythey weren’t gapping well
  • Holding and hooking means you aren’t gapping well
  • Forwards not backchecking enough
Oilers
  • Desperate team
  • Their important players came to play
  • Good at doubling up; Canucks didn’t get on those situations quickenough
Lankinen
  • Was a competitor and hung in their
  • Is a fighter; the least of their problems
2nd Period
  • Their game came and got on top of the oilers
  • Couple of mistakes in the 3rd & Oilers got timely powerplays
Miller & Pettersson on the PK
  • Got stuck out their on the PK; wanted them on their to win the draw thenget off
Pettersson
  • Good game for him to build on
7 Defencemen
  • Not a late injury
  • Felt they needed an extra defencemen for penalty killing

You knew from the 1st call on Hughes that it was going to be gongshow refereeing wise.

Garland apparently tripped on that PK yet no call (who knows though, they never show the right replays). Icing that led to the 2nd goal was not an icing. Hughes tripped at end of period, no call, McDavid tripped and called right away.

Oilers were definitely the better team overall but timing of the shit calls made it almost impossible for the Canucks to gain any footing.

Slow starts are going to kill us, won't be able to claw back every time.

7D 11F was a twofold mistake: Juulsen is horrid and all the jumbled forward lines seemed out of sync.

Nice to see Petey ramping up but now Miller seems to be slowing down lol.

Aman made 2 brutal plays, led to 2 goals against. Had an easy chance to clear on the PK, got owned by Drai.
Blew by the puck on the bad stanchion bounce, it was in his view the whole time, could have definitely still got to that in time.

PP is gonna cost this team again. The plays and entries they try are stupid and stale. It takes so long for them to set up a shot. The Oilers PP has 2-3 shots in the first 20 seconds if they win the draw. Nucks spend easy a full minute before their 2nd attempt, if any.

Miller taking a lot of very short shifts. Some just faceoff and bail, didn't even try to join the rush when there were chances to. Might be something there

As good as Garland is, he is a puck hog, and takes too much puck time away from better players. The 3rd worked so well last year because he was the lines best player. Don't really want him with JT too often, or on PP1 at all.

I don't want to see the Desharnais experiment continue any longer. Wish management instead of signing Forbort, Myers and Desharnais we signed Roy instead.

I mean people watching have been commenting we can’t keep playing like we have and excepting to win. The bubble popped tonight. Not worth the PVR. On to the next one, hopefully with Petey keeping his pace

Hot damn Miller gets some new line mates, ones that Petey has been asked to play with and they go -2 on the night. Missing Boeser is gonna hurt Miller. Team needs another good top 6 forward.

Desharnais went all the way to a cup final but apparently he's not an NHL caliber defenseman. Most teams have a bubble player like Juulsen in and out of the roster. This isn't some unique thing. And doesn't need to be repeated after every loss

You mean where he played exactly one game in said final and never saw the ice again thereafter because he wasn't good enough? His playoff resume was a paltry -9 and a single point in 16 games. He only subbed in for Broberg who Edmonton stupidly let slip away.

The way Desharnais has played is borderline depth 6-7th which is fringe NHL caliber at best. What frustrates me about his signing is the intent was, supposedly, a work in progress. So why the hell are we paying this pylon 2M for two years? If he's a project, offer him 900k or tell him to f*** off.

Whoever Desharnais' agent is should be sending Tocchet a monthly fruit basket for being such an easy con.
