You mean where he played exactly one game in said final and never saw the ice again thereafter because he wasn't good enough? His playoff resume was a paltry -9 and a single point in 16 games. He only subbed in for Broberg who Edmonton stupidly let slip away.

The way Desharnais has played is borderline depth 6-7th which is fringe NHL caliber at best. What frustrates me about his signing is the intent was, supposedly, a work in progress. So why the hell are we paying this pylon 2M for two years? If he's a project, offer him 900k or tell him to f*** off.

Whoever Desharnais' agent is should be sending Tocchet a monthly fruit basket for being such an easy con.
If he was a decent 6 he would have been getting 3M. It's only been 13 games.

Alright guys on to the next.

Pettersson coming around - that is enormous.

I really don't like Desharnais. Trying to be patient. He just has absolutely no puck management skills. Tocchet is trying to teach him to play the puck forward to up the pace of play so he adjusts by basically throwing every single puck up and off the boards for a dead giveaway. I don't know I just don't see it.

As somebody who has watched VD since he started in the AHL... that describes his skill set perfectly. Still he went from ECHL that could barely skate to okay bottom-pair NHL D-man which is impressive. What VD is good at is separating the player from the puck... once he has the puck it should go to somebody else lol. I'd take him back on the Oil any day of the week but probably not at $2M/yr though.

Friedman was stretchered off the ice in the AHL. He hasn't played in a month.
That was last week lol.

Explain your custom title.

Surprisingly - Blueger and Myers were the only Canucks with + nights. Pretty disappointing 3rd, but shit happens. On to the next one.

Whelp, all that pregame talk about how great Lankinen is really put the jinx on.

Very concerning how this team has played against actual good teams. We’ve had a very soft schedule, and in my view, haven’t looked very good. Our points percentage flatters us. With that said, we’re lucky that we are where we are despite how poor we have been to start the season.

Need to turn it around and I think there are three big components to that:

1. Pettersson needs to continue to improve. He was better tonight but he’s got a long ways to go. Still isn’t moving his feet with the puck. And you could see that in all of the examples Bieksa used of him improving and holding onto the puck (which is good) he also wasn’t moving his feet with the puck.

2. Miller needs to get things going. Looks injured, and so maybe he should be sat, but this team can’t be effective with their two best forwards both playing like garbage.

3. Deharnais needs to be shot out of a cannon and we need to find a way to stabilize the defense but also not play a “no offense defensive system”.

Soucy overachieved last season and it's starting to show why he's never been a consistent top four. That being said, I'm willing to cut him and Myers a little slack because they're simply being asked to do too much. Say what you will about Zadorov or even Cole but both allowed a more even spread of useful minutes. Which is more or less how we cheated not really having a core #3.

Allvin and/or Tocchet seemed to think both were good enough to lead on their own or maybe they thought Forbort and Desharnais would be better. Who knows and who cares. It's a massive miss and needs to be addressed soon.

Unfortunately, it's going to be a costly one seeing how defense is looking like a huge premium right now.

Might be a step back season for the Canucks. Probably should read 1 though since they did beat the Kings.
Instant doomer classic. Discount the win against Florida, discount the OTL to Carolina, discount the win against LA, meanwhile I'm not even convinced the .500 Oilers or the Lightning are "a lock". How can people even take this garbage seriously

It's Taj is more like something you just laugh at.

This stuff gets overblown early in the season. The 2011 Canucks beat one playoff team in their first 20 games, it’s not that big a deal.

What’s way more concerning is the GAA at home vs away. Team needs to sharpen up and defend their home ice better. I know sample size etc., but going from 2nd to 32nd GAA from away to home is a little bit too much.

Especially when they get the match ups.

I don't usually get flu shots but I've been sick twice this season already with a nasal/throat thing that just lingers. Usually I'm down for a few days once and then good the rest of the flu season.

Fu,kin buttman schedule makers
Oh I don't know about that.

They will have had two/three? scheduled wins by next game.
Lots of time for practice.
Lots of time for recovery.

Really a quite easy and light schedule so far. Much easier than last year.
They just don't have ... chemistry?

Tocchet has them leaning on a few players for success.
A 32 yr old JT Miller, Pettersson and Hughes but mostly Vezina quality goal tending.
