If you go back to the start of last year's interviews, Tocchet talked a ton about motion, flow, and not having guys in set spots, and how he was trying to break the Canucks out of the whole wait for Miller to go downhill on the left side or Petey one times it on the right half wall.
They executed that perfectly at the start of last season, team's adjusted a bit to it, and the team's been completely out of answers since (trading Kuzmenko, who was particularly good at being a rover, didn't help). The players ended up reverting to old habbits and have gone back to just standing around in their spots (Petey is particularly guilts of being slow to move around and adjust).
Step one to resolving that is getting guys to move their feet, because if guys aren't even going to move, it's hard to start talking to them about movement and flow, which is why Tocchet's narrative likely changed from motion & attacking to being hungry for pucks.
Which is weird because the last season the pp started with so much movement and it was scoring at like a top 5 rateEvery coach has a blind spot and Tocchet's most obvious one is that he thinks he's qualified to coach the power play. Even the way he talks about it "you gotta be hungry for pucks" etc is just wrong. It's all about movement and flow and the players clearly are not getting any help from the coaching staff right now. They aren't in sync at all.

I agree with pretty much all of this although I'd argue that Step 1 might be addressing the abysmal zone entries. If the lose the opening faceoff, the whole PP tends to be a writeoff because they can't f***ing get set up in the zone properly again after that.
We're so predictable and in the Edmonton series in particular their PK guys knew what we were going to do before we did it.
I've noticed that as well. I love Tochett but I think his biggest weakness is how he forms lines and how quickly he gives up on them.I remember when hoglander used to win puck battles once upon a time. What happened?
Something was just off with a number of players
The PP dying last season corresponded almost exactly to Pettersson turning into a pumpkin.
When he moves around and is engaged, the PP goes well. When he's standing in one place, it sucks. And he's also a zone entry superstar when he's right and can execute difficult entries with precision with his ability to stickhandle in a phone booth ... where he's just utterly listless and confused in those situations right now.
Guys who get a pass on this one for me - Sherwood, Garland, Blueger, Suter, Sprong, Hughes.
Everyone else…ugly.

Debrusk needs to be back with EP or when Dak is back try him there.

On that note...whatever these little dudes are...why Blue and Red, not Blue and Green? Or Black and Spaghetti colour? Are you a Messier stan?
Okay. Jesus. Hang on, this is really messed up.
I was at that Anaheim game.
And I was at a 6-0 Halloween loss to Colorado.
And at another point in the late 90s, I think, I was at an 8-0 loss to Colorado.
So I’ve been at 3 of the 7 worst home ice defeats in team history.
Jesus.
Thiel ran theoretical simulations on how to fight Astartes, for which he was to be punished, as that was seen as treasonous. At Calth, when the Word Bearers attacked, he was awaiting censure by Guilliman aboard Mac Crack's Honour, heaving a red painted helmet as mark of censure. During the attack he gathered survivors onboard, raided Guilliman's own weapons museum and organized the defense against the Word Bearer's boarders and the daemon incursion onboard.
When the survivors onboard found Guilliman and organized a counter push Guilliman ordered the red paint as in promptu rank symbol, as the survivors where pretty patchwork at that point. He also recognized that Thiel had the right idea on thinking about how to fight the Legions and as such wanted the red helmet not to be a mark of shame anymore.
These are painted in the colors of Ultramarines and their Primarch Guilliman liked the initiative Thiel showed so much the red helm, formerly a sign of censure, became the official Ultramarines Seargent's rank marking and was established in the codex later.
As bad as today was, I still don't know if it was as bad as the 8-2 drubbing I went to in 2007 at the hands of the Flyers.
The Canucks had a 5 on 3 that game (and like 9 powerplays overall)...and got scored on shorthanded by Mike Richards Probably the most embarassing goal against I ever saw live.
I didn't realize the game was on tonight I was out playing trivia. We didn't win either but I'm glad I missed this one.
Id argue a few things. The PP last year went stale when teams figured out pressure at the point to disrupt the Hughes quarterback led pp. the pp only got passable when Miller started being the qb. I dont even mind our guys being static on the pp, but the puck has to be moving to open up lanes. Having Miller, Hughes, Petey capable of snipes and bombs shouldnt have this much problems scoring with a man advantage. Double clutching and slow to pass allowing pressure are and have been hurting us. Now yes Petey whiffing or taking a fortnight to shoot isnt helping but he isnt the fundamental problem withthe ppThe PP dying last season corresponded almost exactly to Pettersson turning into a pumpkin.

Just wish our blueline had that depth. Hamhuis, Salo, Bieksa, Edler, Ehrhoff, Rome. This game reminded me of that ass kicking Chicago gave them in the 2010/2011 season, that team proceeded to lose to Arizona the next day.
Then the team got its shit together and went on a streak.
Here's to their ass kicking, go on a run.
