*Not here to predict whether or not he will get traded
*Not here to discuss whether or not he should get traded

If Seattle made Giordano available at the deadline (50% retained), what teams would be interested? What would be the best offer?

(Interested in futures. Picks, prospects, etc.)

I’d offer something around Dermott, Mikheyev, 2022 1st for Giordano (@50%) + Jarnkrok

Yeah Toronto is the best fit for Gio, but otherwise without an over payment Seattle should just keep him and resign him, he's already a fan favorite and it wouldn't look great to trade your first captain this soon

Every contender should be interested, Gio is a solid top pairing dman who plays a great 2 way game. He's 38 but has what I would call low miles, started late and hasn't been worn down by long seasons because the Flames have sucked most of his career. He's suffered some injuries but none of them are long term career killers and he is always one of the fittest players reporting to camp. I know Oiler fans hate him but to me that's a good thing. If TO could fit him in it would be a great add and I could see him signing a value priced extension, hard to say with Dubas negotiating though (sorry).

Value wise I would guess a late 1st and a reasonable prospect and would be happy to pay it. To be honest if the Flames keep up their pace I'd love to have him back but it might be awkward with Calgary having no permanent Captain.

Seattle should definitely be able to get at least a 1st for Gio 50% retained, multiple teams probably offer that. He plays like a top 4 guy and he brings the type of leadership that every team would be looking for in a playoff run.

Or you trade him for the best package offered and then re-sign him in the off-season without naming an interim captain. Pretty sure the fans would support a move to build for the future regardless of which aging and pending UFA 6 month fan favourite is moved.

There is next to no significance in moving the captain of an expansion team when his contract dicatates moving him.

He's a UFA at seasons end and they aren't going anywhere that's what you do, you trade for futures

That's a serious gamble that he's going to stay. If they play this game they risk losing him for nothing so it's best to get what they can before he signs somewhere else.

If Gio is placed on the market (He should be if Seattle continues to be outside the playoff circle) Seattle fans should pray for a bidding war. I'm not sure Francis could handle it but it does increase the chance that Seattle really cashes in on this one asset.

Age should never be considered when acquiring a rental. Age is only relevant for the future, with rentals you are investing in the now. As long as Gio is still performing as a top 4 guy this year he is still worth a top 4 guy at the deadline. My guess is he returns a bit more than a 1st at 50% (maybe double retention)

Yes and no. It's true you don't need to worry about whether he will decline next season, but a 38 year old is more likely to run out of gas in a playoff run than a 28 year old would be.

Not a terrible offer but I think Florida and others would beat it. Seattle already has more than enough players at the same level as Demott and Mikheyev so I doubt either of them move the needle even an inch in Toronto’s favor.

Those two players probably have more value to other teams that need more bottom of roster depth. That’s definitely not a Seattle problem.

This seems to be close to value for Gio but I don’t think this makes a lot of sense for Seattle. With players like Dunn, Lauzon, Fleury I don’t think Dermott is a need and Mikheyev is more of what they already have - average 3rd line winger. If the Kraken trade Gio it’s because they are trying to collect assets. I think the price would be a 1st and prospect

I'd do something around Philips or Gawdin as the prospect and a 1st for 50% retention, throw another team a 3rd for extra retention? So maybe we could try rounding out the middle 6 as well

Toronto for the Brodie - Gio pairing. That pairing was dominant for years, and I know they’d be a solid duo for Toronto too if they were to match them again.

Boston for a Gio - McAvoy pairing for a solid playoff push with Rask coming back.

Washington to play with Carlson, another ideal playing partner for Gio.

Could also be NYR if the Rangers want a reliable LD playing with Fox.

Those are my top 4 options. He makes the most sense for the East.

Sleeper option would be Calgary, offering Seattle Zadorov + C Prospect + cond. 2nd/1st if Calgary makes the Conference Finals. That is if Gio is at 50% and Treliving firmly believes that Gio would help us more than Zadorov, which is extremely likely.

Depends on what kind of shape they're in. It also depends on their injury history and which parts are wearing out or have failed completely because of those injuries. There's also a leadership factor that has to be factored in and Gio has that - even if he's sitting in a chair by the bench the entire stretch run.

No to the Flames paying a 1st for him. We'll sign him in the off-season anyway

Not sure that even gets you Giordano. Mikheyev is nothing but a cap dump, Dermott would be a 6/7 defender. The only decent piece is the 1st. Giordano at 50% would get that from any team looking at him. There needs to be something added to the 1st for just Giordano and not Dermott. Jankrok is also worth a 2nd himself.

Sure but generally speaking a team inquiring on him isn't looking to add a #1/2, they are probably looking to add a veteran leader that can play tough minutes and jump up the lineup in a pinch. Similar to how Tampa acquired Savard last year.

Outside of major injuries to other teams top 4's my guess is the teams that will be calling for him are the Panthers, Rangers, Leafs, Bruins, Caps, Blues, and Jets

if we could acquire a 2nd for Jankrok, I would be delighted. And flabbergasted.

and I think the 75% discount is going to become more of a thing. Giordano @ $1,687,500 is extremely attractive for any playoff-caliber team.
