Yeah Jack has been back to a lot of old bad habits since the break. He was doing so many little things right when the boys were playing lock down all around good hockey prior to the break. Was an inexcusable play in a tie game in the 3rd when you’re finally turning the tide and pressuring.
Why the f*** is a star-level player on year six still reverting to rookie habits? This is where one starts to question whether he will ever get the message, and that is a potentially humongous f***ing problem.

I’ll say this. I’m very impressed with our goalies. They’ve been finding ways to keep us in games and get us points we haven’t necessarily deserved since the Kraken game. Tough to not have an extra win or two to show for that.

The math is extremely against us missing the playoffs. It would take a pretty epic season long collapse.
Fair

Just feels like there’s no end in sight to this and the fact that it’s a gauntlet of cream of the crap and mediocre teams between now and early February spells trouble.

We should be collecting points again against these types of teams. I haven’t looked at the schedule much post-break, but I’d have to think this is our weakest remaining strength of schedule through the end of the season from today until we play Vegas on the 5th (I think?) of February.

We have two more against this shit ass team in the next week-ish.

it’s not the back end, it’s the terrible bottom 6 that gives no relief to the top 6.

this is exactly the kind of game that you want the bottom 6 to grind out a dirty goal or two. how many games this season have we gotten more than 1 goal from the bottom 6 in a game?

even controlling corsi and xgf they’re not a good 5v5 team offensively top to bottom
The bottom 6 was actually better than the top 6 today. It definitely needs to be upgraded, but the defense being a complete black hole offensively kills this team’s attack capabilities.

You have to have such an unrealistic negative mindset to believe the team is never going to play good consistent hockey again.
When have they played good CONSISTENT hockey? Most of the first 20 games was up and down, then they had a couple of week stretch where it looked really good, now they are on week 3 are straight trash. That's literally the epitome of inconsistent....you can't get back to consistency you never had.

He’s clearly capable of it as we saw before the break. Lots of bad habits all over the lineup. Let’s see if they can get things moving the right way leading into the Four Nations break. 9 games until that break.

they literally had the most or tied for the most points in the NHL like 3 weeks ago dude lol they have played plenty of consistent hockey this year.

I think maybe take a break from sports today or something. Sheesh.

What makes this hilarious is that the goalies were the constant excuse de-jour for our failings since this core has been in place. At least they can't be the scapegoats anymore.

by the way, since I have seen this a few times in here:

the Florida Panthers last year had a stretch where they lost 10 of 15 games. In late March into April, right before the playoffs. How did their season end?

This "GOOD TEAMS DON'T HAVE STRETCHES LIKE THIS!" stuff is just crap. It isn't real life. They have plenty of time to turn this back around.

yes because the goaltending has sucked in prior years and this year overall it has been good.

Why is this a hard concept?

Yeah and the Sabres were at one point in the season in a playoff spot. 6 weeks ago the Wild were on pace for 130 points.

Put the record aside. What we have watched this season has not been consistent. Please stop.

comparing "in a playoff spot" to "most points in the league"

lmao good grief dude.

if you don't think they were consistent through December, you're kidding yourself. Just lying through your teeth.

The goalies were bad, but so was so much else about the team. And some of those things have thus far only marginally improved. The point is that the goalies were scapegoats for ignoring other problems.

Why is that a hard concept?

This is true. Doesn't make their play since the break any more acceptable or less frustrating, but it is true that it is very early. And I don't doubt they will turn it around. Just hope it happens quick.
