Bit surprising. I guess Darnold got a bit hobbled last game and they want some insurance? Also, KOC is a good coach.

I would have guessed one of the bad teams with no QB, but I suppose he was just cut from one of those teams.

r/the_Darnold is gonna have a field day with this
With McCarthy a raw rookie on IR, and the backups being Mullen and Rypien, I guess this move makes sense.

Dabbol is a good OC so not sure how much more KOC can do with him, though the roster in Minny is better than in NYG (though they are now without Darrisaw their LT since that game vs Rams).

But, good for Jones to be around a good team to see how that is. Still think he ends up signing as a backup with one of the good teams vs sign to be a bridge guy on a bad club. He's made $108 mill, so best to step back a bit and work on the game to hopefully have more years in the league vs get $10 mill to start on a bad team.

He wasn't interested in signing with a bad team

And signing to the Practice Squad gives him flexibility if he changes his mind.

This make sense for all involved. He gets to go to a good organization, with a coach who does good work with QBs, while still giving himself options in the short and long term. See what's out though in March or if he likes it there, he can stick around and be the JJ McCarthy insurance policy.

Also no pressure. If he goes to say, the Raiders, he'll probably play right away, but it's just New York all over again, and more opportunities for bad tape.

For as bad as he been and the memes, he's still probably a top back up. Would you rather have him than Mullens or Rypien? Or based on some of the other teams interested, 36 year old Josh Johnson, Brandon Allen or Josh Dobbs?
