Dispatching a team quickly in the first round will do a lot to help this fanbases past playoffs horrors.
Except that scenario could create the same issue as what happened when they swept the oilers. Allows rust and cockiness to set in and if their 2nd round opponent is coming off a hard fought 6 or 7 game series, they ride that momentum into that series.

Truly a double edged sword because you don’t want to expend unnecessary energy and risk injury when you can put a team away early.

I agree. He had a pretty weak clear attempt where he had a ton of time, waited too long and then got pressured and weakly threw it up the boards, and an ill advised switch that almost got picked off but other than that he was rock solid. He also applied some sensible physical play, outside of that one time he stepped way out of structure to hit Kyrou? outside his blueline that could have been a man advantage break. It reminds me of late stage Stuart or Buff before he decided to actually play defense. He needs to cut that out.

If he could find a way to avoid these jittery shifts he tends to have within a game, he is a perfectly fine bottom pairing D.

I didn't notice the "jittery shifts". I noticed him playing a calmer, more intelligent game. Less rushed sometimes = quicker. Absolutely nothing spectacular, just solid.

I don't want to commit to saying he is 'getting it' at nearly 27 YO, but it is beginning to look that way. He is even doing it against some better teams and with changing partners. I hope he can keep it up in the PO.

So by my count our magic number is 3. 2 if one of those wins is against Dallas. Is my math correct?

I saw another post that suggested our magic number was six. I'm guessing that our magic number in points, not wins by the Jets / losses by the Stars.

m.

Yup. Points + for us or - for Stars

looks like Dallas is going to continue winning. Our game against them will most likely decide the standings.

I'm definitely seeing steady improvement. Funny, I was the one saying that some defenseman takes longer to get it, but I was psshawwwed.

He still has some glaring weaknesses to clean up to be a guy you don't consider taking out of the lineup. Getting walked to the outside and better net front protection, as well as picking his spots for hits.

He is going to make a good depth piece in playoffs playing behind whoever Schenn is best with.
