This looks dope, Suckerpunch and Sony did a great job of keeping this under wraps, there were no leaks or info of any kind about this game until the trailer dropped this week, and it's coming out in 2025. As someone who just finished playing through Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut on PS5, I'm f***ing stoked for this game.

We won't get a concrete date till GTA6 has one, Sony is going to want to give it a decent few month cushion
Eh, Sony put out Horizon the same week as Breath of the Wild, and Horizon 2 the same week as Elden Ring. They're not above sending games out to die.

I think it's going to be like God of War.

They fixed some things, it's technically better, but people don't like it as much because it is basically more of the same.
I can see the hesitation for it to repeat what the Horizon and God of War sequels were, just more of the same, but those two also came out on PS4 so I think that confined them from being able to grow the gameplay. And they were direct sequels, happening right after the events of the first games and you play as the same protagonists. This new Ghost is hundreds of years into the future.

That's a fair point, but I'm still skeptical they expand the gameplay by much and it was already starting to feel repetitive by the end of the first one.

This generation has been one of stagnation so i am very skeptical that the gameplay will be really different.

We mostly get some graphical improvements and better framerates. That we are getting so many remakes/remasters with many of them being needless confirms that.

Which is by the way potentially contentious as f***. Not sure yet what the angle is going to be, but either it's Americans doing a completely tone deaf game about Asian history which is going to be regrettable, or it's Americans playing with topics of early Asian settler colonialism which is interesting to be sure, but more than a bit volatile for several reasons.

In principle we've seen in movies that the Wild West genre works quite well also set in Hokkaido, but surely that's not the direction they're going with this.

It’s only contentious if you’re overly sensitive. Different cultures can tell stories from other cultures with a respectable amount of care and context. If you’re going into it thinking it could likely be mishandled then that’s on you. If a Japanese studio can make a great game with a great story about revolutionary America I wouldn’t be wringing my hands over much.

Plenty of historical settings should be getting stories told about them through games or movies/shows. Otherwise we’re just getting zombies, alien hordes, or vague general enemies.

Just seems like a poor starting point ideologically from you.

The point being that the only local culture in the region at the time were the Ainus, and there's no reasonable angle that would allow depicting the Japanese colonizers especially favorably. They were basically what the Mongols were in the first game.

Assuming all we know about this game is what’s shown in the trailer we’ve got in the OP, it’s way too early to tell what the story will be about. Way too premature to think it’ll be mishandled.

@ me next year when the game comes out if I’m wrong but this is cultural gatekeeping IMO. Let people tell stories in entertainment mediums.
