We dont have much in the way of prospects to be giving up. Bennett and McCann are the two I'd be targeting. At this point, with all the QH rumors going on and no guarantee hes going to be here in two years, im ripping the band aid off and trading him. If we can get a package centered around Nemec and Mercer, with two firsts then we can flip Nemec for a young LHD with size to play along side Hronek (who is capable of getting around 50 points), we'll be fine. I dont buy into the notion we cant do well without QH. If we sign Bennett, we have three firsts to stock up on prospects and we still get to keep Willander. Our Defense and goal tending being a huge strength, we have so many options. On one hand we have Willander to slot in on the bottom pairing in case of injuries, re-sign Forbort for the same reason. I'd also sign Jeannot or Fredric for more size and to protect players like Petey or Lekkerimaki, which gives them time and space to do their thing. We are also one of the smallest teams in the NHL so adding size and truculence for the regular, and post season isnt a bad idea. Can K'Andre Miller be pried out of NY for Nemec to play with Hronek on the first pairing?

Everyone always mentions Nemec, but with his lack of development post draft I'd way rather we take silayev in his place. Especially if we are trading a lefty in Hughes. He's a 6'7" beast who can skate. I'd probably ask for Nemec as well and leave out Mercer. Seems like a tweener and if we don't need one of our dmen prospects they are least fetch more in trade(see the guy from Columbus)

As far as the list, it's basically 'none of the above' . They would all come with some serious baggage and limitations, and would cost far too much.

Re-signing Suter is the easiest solution.....but the problem is, he isn't a legitimate No. 2 center either.

I agree. I don't think there is a real Tier one center there.

That is why I voted to trade down to get a real potential Tier one player, Misa. The rest have set their levels or are a bit small for playoffs so far.

I do think the Islanders might/would trade the #1 overall this season for ready now players. They will have over 38 million in cap space and lots of RFAs for 2nd contracts. They could even add one to a EP for #1 trade for cap purposes.
I might depend upon what Horvat has to say but EP was a pretty potent PP player before Tocchet.
That would give them Bo, Brock and Pete as a line that has had some chemistry in their careers immediately. They have that nice new arena to fill and disturb the rest as little as possible.
Hard to say with a change at GM. Lamorellio might have done this type of deal but a new guy? Maybe.

If they sign Boeser and trade for EP they might/would need cap help. They will have over
The easy season is one thing but building a team for that is not building for playoffs.

I think they should keep and enhance the bottom six/seven players.

With so much chaos on the team right now a down year isn't unexpected.

I’d seriously consider Mctavish from the Ducks as I think him and Debrusk would probably find some chemistry together.

McTavish would be a great get. I doubt the Ducks are going to let him go. They are set up very nicely at 1C and 2C for years to come with McTavish and Carlsson. My guess is that Zegras will be the one who shakes loose. He's a high risk/reward bet that will probably come fairly cheaply to whichever team wants him.

We really should have done what it takes to get Cozens after xmas when it was becoming obvious a divorce was happening and not bothering with Josh Norris.

Hronek Chytil +/- for Cozens Byram +/- would have been a great move for us long term

Could have used the NYR 1st for Carlo or Pulock to fill the RD hole instead of the LD

Cozens 23 for Chytil 25 at 2C
Byram 23 for MPet 29 at LD2
Pulock 30 for Hronek 28 at RD1

Having Byram would have been a nice contingency also if Hughes decides to bolt given his PP abilities.
1-2 locked up a C with a 24yr old and a 26yr old about to hit prime years with Hughes etc would have been ideal

He’s still a great player that does well on face offs, play tough minutes, have predictable production, and his cap hit is reasonable considering what players will get now with the cap rising. I’m not worried about players in their late 30s anymore, with how advanced training and nutrition has become, athletes can produce at a top rate into their late 30s. We’re no longer in the old era of players completely falling off a cliff when they hit 35+.

NY fans are already concerned about his play at 32. They aren't the be all end all, and I know every fan base has their whipping boy but after watching him float around the 4 nations... I'm not interested in that cost. Feels like OEL all over again, but without him finding his game again.
