My guess:

- The Islanders are the only team I can realistically see moving talent for futures. If they decide to rebuild the team will push hard for either Horvat or Barzal.

- If not, then it’s hard to see the various rumoured centres being moved out in a pure futures deal. There’s a chance the player they send out is Hoglander but more likely it will be Chytil in a C plus futures deal for another C. Rossi and Norris seem like the most realistic targets. The others either likely are not available (Hayton, Wright, etc.) or not enough of an upgrade (Zacha).

- All else failing before July 1, then the team goes for one of the old guys as a stop gap on a highish AAV, short term deal.

For money

Money is important but especially when you are a prized UFA other things come into consideration. Look at Guentzel.

Has Vancouver ever attracted a big UFA?
Kuzmenko but had to be offered the same contract everywhere

Sundin who had one foot out the door, we offered a huge sum, and he only joined halfway through the season.

If I'm Bennet, I probably stay in Florida. If I'm Marner, again playing with Matthews and not moving sounds preferable to moving to a team that didn't make the playoffs in a league where half the teams make the playoffs.

I don't think you can look at that as an absolute truth.
Perhaps they’ve already reached out to agents representing bigger-name players like Bennet and Tavares. If those guys aren’t interested, that’s fine. Maybe there isn’t a viable solution this year via free agency—in my opinion, it’s a weaker group overall.

We can try to stack the lines again, and see how far we can go. I'm personally fine with us totally tanking for Mckenna. That kid is special. In my view he is more special than Mcdavid at the same age.

whoever we bring in he better be slightly out of shape. Coming in casts helps

Probably why Norris Dach or Zegras makes sense.

In all seriousness it's impossible to say who might come available. I think Norris with that contract is a massive gamble

Of the names mentioned that have some likelihood of getting moved

1 Barzal (very little chance)
2 McCann (bring back Beths favourite. we can use another lonely superstar)
3 Mercer (maybe we should leave him in NJ so he can be included in the Hughes return?)
4 Sillinger (do other teams enjoy trading away local talent as much as we do)

might make the most sense to stay young if they have to pivot away from Hughes which is why Krebs and DelBelluz are of interest to me so we don't drain premium futures and then need to reset the timeline

Voted other because MacTavish looks like a prime target and perfect player for the Canucks. Extend him a 9.5x6 offersheet which Anaheim can match, but they also have to think of terry, and Carlsson coming up as well. I'd also offer them willander, our first and whatever else they want for him as a third piece before the offersheet route. Even if they sign him it might mess up their cap structure down the road.

I’d target Lundell and McTavish and they would be my top priority this Summer. You need to prepare for Hughes leaving and the next core pieces will all be young. Nobody older than 24 should be the priority.

Watching Bo Horvat light it up so far the World Hockey Championships still is bit of a head-scratcher for me.

Simply put, he should be still playing in Vancouver. I understand the fact that they felt they were forced into a choice of either Miller or Horvat--and chose Miller for an $8m extension. And I guess hindsight is always 20/20.

But the sad reality is, they ended up trading both of them, and have zero replacements. I suppose there's a slim chance that guys like Chytil and Raty who came back in trade--might be able to step up their games at center and plug a bit of the massive hole.

But there's little assurance that this will happen. Now they're scrambling to fill a massive hole at center, when they basically had it filled.

This is true but they may not even want to have 3 Hughes on the team. Some Devils fans have already kinda soured on Jack by his injury history plus they dont think he will be a playoff performer given his small frame. And i read they think Luke will be injury prone like Jack. Which kinda scares me too. Id rather the Canucks swing for the fences and hopefully everything pans out. If it doesnt then well, atleast we tried. I dont even wanna see Quinn leave and we have to endure another rebuild because imo a rebuild doesnt always guarantee success.

Jersey is in a similar boat to us, a median level team and had a pretty sub year. Lucky for them their division was weak. They also have two years to see where they are at as a team. The three brothers aren't going to be so gung ho to play together they don't care about winning, and will happily just congregate on any team that has the most brothers at the time. There is a lot of hockey yet to be played between now and then and a lot of possible options.

Konecny? Is unlikely he's available and he'd cost a fortune. Long shot but flyers are still rebuilding for at least a year or two.

We dont have much in the way of prospects to be giving up. Bennett and McCann are the two I'd be targeting. At this point, with all the QH rumors going on and no guarantee hes going to be here in two years, im ripping the band aid off and trading him. If we can get a package centered around Nemec and Mercer, with two firsts then we can flip Nemec for a young LHD with size to play along side Hronek (who is capable of getting around 50 points), we'll be fine. I dont buy into the notion we cant do well without QH. If we sign Bennett, we have three firsts to stock up on prospects and we still get to keep Willander. Our Defense and goal tending being a huge strength, we have so many options. On one hand we have Willander to slot in on the bottom pairing in case of injuries, re-sign Forbort for the same reason. I'd also sign Jeannot or Fredric for more size and to protect players like Petey or Lekkerimaki, which gives them time and space to do their thing. We are also one of the smallest teams in the NHL so adding size and truculence for the regular, and post season isnt a bad idea. Can K'Andre Miller be pried out of NY for Nemec to play with Hronek on the first pairing?

1) You trade for McCann

2) Sign Sam B

3) Trade Willander for a young forward. I would prefer Sennecke.

4) Trade HOG

5) Dangle Lekk or let him cook in minors for another year

Bennet - McCann - Sennecke
Dak - Raty - Garland
DOC - XXX - Sherwood

Hughes - Hronek
