Life's tough. Don't want to get scored on then play better.

Normally, but when you're forced to play back-to-back with 14 players then sportsmanship has a different role than under normal conditions. I don't blame Canada for playing like they did, but that said I still would have been more impressed if they as hosts had shown more consideration for the exceptional circumstances.

So apparently it was a beatdown on depleted squad who basically had given up before the game already. And who cares one way or the other? Don't understand the outrage at all. We're still in the middle of the corona crisis. Hockey is very far on the list of important or even interesting things.

Germany was totally juice less after game vs. fin. No rest vs a rested team. undermanned. Even the refs favoured Canada heavily.

Golie was off, so many cheap goals. This score means nothing.

Would you rather then just pass around and not shoot? Maybe shoot wide on purpose? Only take shots from outside the blue line? Let the German's have tons of space and skate into the zone like playing against little children?

All of their things would be immensely embarassing and extremely upsetting to anyone playing in the world jrs. We would then get threads complaining about how Canada pited the Germans and treated them like a 2nd class team.

Some are trolling and that's par for the course, but if anyone thinks that the players were playing anywhere near their hardest they need their eyes checked. At least half of that game was a talented team going through the motions against horrific goaltending. The way Germany's goaltenders played that easily could have been a 20+ goal differential.

You can let the clock run down also without any particular antics. It's not about pity or class, but about playing in the middle of a pandemic. The most embarrassing thing would be to pretend this is a normal tournament.

Just no, Germany wasn’t forced to play with 14 players, they had the option to postpone this game and they didn’t. There’s no blame to Canada here and anyone who is trying is just salty.

The score would have been 7-2 for Canada if Germany had this in net.

Postponing the game would have only created new problems to both teams and the whole tournament, as hosts it would have been more classy from the Canadians to show consideration to the fact that the German team was in quarantine in order to keep their opponents and the people of Edmonton safe.

They didn't and I don't hold that against them, but as Canadians like to take pride in their self-image of best in the world sportsmanship it's still certainly something to mind.

Germany was fortunate that Canada didn't run up the score.Canada was very considerate the score could of been 25 -2.

Let the clock run down for 2 periods? Because Canada didn't even try after the first.

Germany knew they were losing this game and it's why they didn't delay.

Seems like a normal tournament to me. Whats the difference between this and lets say soccer leagues like Bundesliga, La Liga or Premier League? Or even KHL, SHL and other european hockey leagues, which is better example since its ice hockey.

Score is what it is. When you’re outmatched and have a leaky goalie, it’s going to be ugly. If they’d swapped goalies, maybe it would’ve been a game.

Nah it wouldnt have unless they have haseks clone

The canadians would have just tried harder maybe it would have been a bit closer tho.

Doesnt really show much class not slowing down after 8 or 10 goals especially given the circumstances Germany had with Covid. Doesnt surprise me from Tourigny though..,

Lol. You sound like you’re trying to set up a guilt trip. Every team quarantined. You could argue that Germany didn’t quarantine well enough if they ended up with positive cases so close to the tournament (I am not saying that, but it’s a valid argument to counter you’re tugging on the heart string with Germany’s valiant effort to keep the people Edmonton safe)

of course but the fact remains Germany wasn’t forced to play with 14 players against Canada, they chose to, and expected this. Again. There is no shame in the score. The German goalies were all kinds of bad.

I think the rules of this tournament encourage them to run up the score. Goal differential later on in the tournament could be the difference between getting a buy or having to play an extra game. So unless Russia and co. also agree to “be polite” to the weaker teams; they don’t really have a choice.

That.
Isn’t.
How.
Goal.
Differential.
Works.

Goal differential only comes into play among tied teams. Unless Canada somehow ends up in a three-way tie with Germany as one of the other tied teams, the score in this game will have no impact on the tournament.
