I don't think the American team was thought to have much of a chance this tournament, but upsetting Sweden and then Canada is unreal.

Russia looks just about unbeatable, but could you imagine Germany pulling off hat trick of upsets??

If Russia can lose to Slovakia (and we’re not talking about a Slovakia with Chara/Hossa/Gáborík), anything’s possible.

When I lived in America it was one of the main things I was asked about. Every tenth conversation with I guy I was getting to know had a "so, how about the war" kind of twist.

While I feel for you, you can kind of understand why people would be curious given how the war more or less shaped the world throughout the 20th century with impacts lasting up to today. Truth be told I'm fascinated more by the first war because everything that happened in it and how it ended had a direct impact on every single thing that followed after.

If Germany wins it would be a much bigger upset than 1980. Really that USA team was a lot better than people give them credit. I find the term 'Miricle on Ice' to be pretty derogatory towards that team, a team that had quite a few players that went on to have solid careers in the NHL.

No, USA 80 was a college team vs the (maybe) best team in the world. Today Germany were underdogs vs Sweden and Canada, but be serious here: Canada send their D or E team. Thanks for that btw. I will enjoy our game vs. Russia not matter the outcome.

I wonder if playing Germany in the finals lessens the prestige to the Russian players. It's still the Olympics, but they were slated to play Finland/Sweden/Canada/USA. Germany making it to the finals shows how weak the competition is.

I called it before the tournament started Germany has been on this path for the past 5-7 years, so this does not come as a surprise.

Huh? Being stuck in the 2nd Division at the World Juniors? And they've made the QF at the senior level twice in the last 11 tournaments they've played outside of Germany.

Yea that was the first game of the tournament. They've been routing their opponents since then.

I absolutely did. Most of them were good conversations and none meant to offend. And I get where you are coming from. I'm more of a Europe early 1800s kind of guy (post Napoleon/German revolution) and how that resulted in things that were to come. History is quite intereresting.

I know next to nothing about issues in German hockey but I hope they can build on this. It's a big country like the US, hockey doesn't have to be a big sport there for them to produce good players and field competitive teams.

Germany beating Sweden and Canada on their way to the finals is of cause a big upset for us swedish and canadian fans but in some way I'm loving it. German team are playing a very good hockey winning over the big teams proving their hockey is in an very healthy state. This is good news for world wide hockey fans wanting hockey to be even greater i the future. Go get the gold Germany! (sorry Russian fans but an underdog with so much heart allways get my support in games like these)

Mine wasnt a joke, i straight want germany to win because that would just be cool. They have never won a gold and doing it against a stacked russian team would make it even better
