Looks like good ,attentive ,instructive coaching to me!

No one in the middle of the ice... Geee... I wonder who they will force the puck to... It couldn't be a Mika one timer? Overload is a terrible idea unless they rotate into different looks

It just flawed from the outset. Who are the scoring options in structure? Mika shooting from the dot, which is extremely predicatble and telegraphed? or a Kreider tap in from Kane? That's it; unless it's a broken play. Panarin wont shoot from the right wall. Fox wont shoot.

as opposed to 1-3-1 with Mika at Bumper,
Panarin shoot from left wall.
Mika Shoot from Bumper.
Kane shoot from Right Wall.
Kreider still in front

which has more looks?

Over complicating it for no good reason.

What're y'all's thoughts about Tarasenko on the right side of PP1?

Mika and Tarasenko each clapping 1-timers. Kreider in front. Trocheck on faceoffs and camped out in the bumper, and Fox walking the blue line. Build PP2 around Panarin and Kane.

I'm surprised Gallant hasn't tried putting 93 and 91 together. Can't remember the last time we had two lethal shots on the same PP. Idk how you'd defend that.

Trocheck on the left wall... his shot is not nearly good enough to be in that spot, but I guess we don't have another right handed shot to put there. Yikes.

Fixing the PP is so obvious at this point. A few weeks ago, it was working. Go back to that. Kreider net front, Panarin left circle/low left point, Zibanejad bumper, Tarasenko right side half wall. You still have royal road to Panarin, you still have Zibanejad one timers from the bumper, Panarin and Zib can rotate in and out of the bumper to create mismatches to open royal road for Mika from the left circle, and you have a lefty shot on the right wall with a darn good shot who teams need to consider so they can't cheat to the weak side of the ice when Fox has the puck.

Meanwhile, that drops Trocheck to the second unit where he can play net front (where he is far better than bumper) and get involved in puck retrieval. Chytil is the best at getting open in tight coverage on that unit, so he can play bumper because his best asset is his speed which doesn't help during a set-up PP. Kane plays puck distributor and you give him Trouba at the point who gives him a one-time option (unfortunately he's still the best PP option besides keeping Fox out for 2 minutes). Laf plays on the opposite side and helps retrieve pucks and make plays, and can also set up Chytil in the middle. Trocheck takes the faceoffs, so Chytil and his 39% don't have to.

For all the hate I'm often accused of giving GG, this is my biggest issue is personnel. Stop screwing with the lines, and stop trying combos that didn't work the first 7 times "again." It's maddening, because just like Vigneault, he's a pretty good coach aside from this, but it's a pretty damning flaw. How much on ice evidence do you need to see to understand that Panarin-Kane or Panarin-Trocheck or Kreider-Tarasenko (at even strength) just isn't going to work??? Same thing with the PP. Trocheck in the bumper, and Kane-Panarin both need to go in the place where hockey put the two-line pass. Enough already.

It is amazing we keep hiring these coaches who have no idea how to coach an NHL team when we have so many experts on this board. Why doesn't Drury hire one of them? Such bad luck 😭

There are at least 3-4 posters here who would be the best coaches in the history of the NHL.

However, they are busy working on a cure for cancer, so we can forgive them.

He also has had the most talented and complete roster (in their prime) than any other coach. Even if you compare the roster in '94
FFS last year he had almost the exact roster as Quinn had the year before when they didn't make the playoffs. In fact Quinn had Buch who I think most agree was better than Reavo and an injured Blais.

I almost had it figured out, but got bored and moved on to splicing cats with emus.

He did. The lineup was also a year older, and had come close to making the playoffs that year.

Before we got Kane this is what we had and it was quite good. Hope Gallant tried it but he won't be the coach who moves Kane off PP1.

Our defense was atrocious to start game last night but GG is playing it cool as we wind down to playoffs. He will totally tell them the truth about there play in the postseason and put pressure on the players to perform at an acceptable level .

Gallant has been his own worst enemy a ton this year. I don't like what hes doing with the PP right now and his need to force Kane-Panarin when that trade happened which kept K-Z-T as a thing is the difference between the Rangers still having a shot at 1st in the division and being where they are right now. Now there are other things (If Igor is Igor, if Kreider isn't shooting like 4% on the PP, if Panarin isn't handcuffed to Kravtsov for a month and a half, etc) but your coach should never get in the way of your on ice shit.

But he has done things pretty recently that I HAVE liked.

- Shifting the lines in that Carolina game last month that they won 6-2 (The 4 goal, 5 point Panarin game.) They were getting boat raced before that happened and once things changed up Panarin went off, game over.

- Doing the same thing to spark them in Florida, but having the awareness to realize that it was just an off night for those lines and GOING BACK THE LINES THAT THEY STARTED THAT GAME WITH for the next one. Had he tried to shove K-Z-T down our throats again I would have arrested Jovo and just murdered Gallant myself.

If he can get the PP sorted out (I'd like to just go back to the way things were) that would be great.

Vveryone knows he isn't a tactician, so on that end I would actually like to see them replace his assistants at the end of the year as I think they're both ass.
