1) Gary Suter
2) Georgiev
3) McSorley

"On September 21, 1969, during a neutral-site National Hockey League exhibition game between the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins at the Civic Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Wayne Maki and Ted Green engaged in a nearly-fatal stick-swinging fight.

Maki struck Green in the head with his stick, fracturing his skull and sent skull chips into his brain. Green required hours worth of surgery to save his life.

The game was televised by WSBK in Boston, but they ordered that the tape be destroyed due to its gruesome nature for fear that it would be reproduced."

Against my better judgment, I am going to chime in.

Using the term 'slash' is a bit hyperbolic. I actually noticed this in real time and thought it to be more of a, 'Come on, let's get that back!' type of thing. It apparently wasn't and Georgiev apologized. He is nowhere near Grubauer when it comes to deflecting blame onto his teammates.

I am not saying that this is justification for being a bad teammate, but in 50+ years of watching hockey, I can't recall any goaltender being constantly hung out to dry as Georgiev has. Does he let in the occasional softie? Sure. But so have Kuemper, Grubauer, Varlamov, and a not small pile of Av backups.

Again, I have never seen a goalie face so many odd-man rushes or knuckle-head plays by his teammates. Hell, even Makar has had two 'own goals' in the past 10 games. Toews was an absolute nightmare in this game, first giving up a lazy stupid intercepted pass with 5 seconds to go in a period. Then he did his best impression of RyJo getting lost in no man's land and making zero effort to block a pass which almost hit his stick anyway. A few games back, Toews was defending a 2 on 1, and broke all the rules taught in PeeWee. All ( and no less than 20 other goals this season) these team failures impact any goalie's Save%.

I am not in love with Georgiev's lack of rebound control. I want to kill him when he strolls around the rear of the net. But I would estimate that no less than 50% of his goals against come after a teammate pulls some brain-dead mistake.

No one is saying this is vicious or violent, merely demeaning. I guess some posters would be alright if they made a faux pas in public/at a social function/party/whatever and their wife/friend/mother/father/whoever gave them a light slap on the back of the head. It isn’t violent after all

There's a reason other Ranger players didn't even follow him on Instagram, yet Tony DeAngelo was still attending their weddings after he was off the team. I don't get the people acting like this is no big deal, it may not have been likely to cause injury but it's still pretty rare to see players attacking their teammates like that. Especially considering he's also punched a teammate in the face before. This is the same guy who would pout on the bench and just skate by Shesterkin at the end of games when everyone else is giving hugs or head taps, and who in an interview when asked about how great things are going for the Rangers when they were the hottest team in the league and he responded things aren't going too well because he's not playing enough.

Worst part is probably the fact that the guy he's slashing over a bad screen, is literally a rookie who's played a whopping 3 NHL games in his career. Georgiev is a POS.
...You're sooooooooo soff.

I expected violence and I got it. Binnington's tantrum of recent years pale in comparison.

In all seriousness though, dude should communicate that to his teammate BEFORE the goal not after. On the ice I'd let my dmen know vocally if they were in the way, heck I'd tap them during play too. They got the message, and nobody was hurt mentally or physically.

Communication.

Gotta give 'em tug, boys, that's not a slash.

Agreed (and perhaps he was) - at least when I'm in net, if you're screening me I'm yelling "Blind! Blind!".

Varies by goaltender but you've got to let them know.

Of course, at my level they usually "screen and flamingo" instead of "screen and block the shot".

Ah yes the flamingo, im their natural habitats; the blue paint, with no adversary in sight

Idk what to name them, my favorite has always been the guys backing too far. Push you inside the net then try to play goals to save the mistake.

I now play soccer on defense and flamingo at times, so no offense meant to them, but its a funny quirk between the goalie's perspective and the D.

I have the opposite problem when I play defense in hockey - I keep instinctually getting in the way (for good or - usually - for bad).

Obviously this is a nothing burger, but it’s almost never a good look for goalies to publicly blame their defense IMO. Doesn’t matter who the goalie is or what transpired on the ice. Only caveat would be if there is a physical altercation and no response from the team.

Not surprising HF misses the forrest for the trees yet again. No it's not some violent 'slash', that's not the point.

But it's a goalie showing up a rookie player trying to find his way in the NHL. Plus I don't see much wrong in what the defenseman did, he was boxing out it front and got caught in a tough situation when the seas parted for Morrisey to just walk in. Where was that COL winger?

Georgiev is an inconsistent douche
Yeah. Kind of weird the people are focusing so much on the force of the slash. Publicly blaming/showing up a rookie with 4 NHL games is the story here, not an intent to injure. I guess I shouldn't be surprised when HF collectively misses the entire point.

Given that it wasn't a slash, how do we know what Georgiev said concurrently to the stick hit?

I often/occasionally slap defensemen on the backside with my stick when we're heading to intermission and say "hey, great period" or something.

(I don't think Georgiev said "hey, great period".)

I don't think Georgiev's play really gives him the right to get frustrated at his teammates, he has been making a lot of problems himself as well. That said, teammates (and co-workers) in real life sometimes are frustrated at each other. Maybe it's just a yelling match, but I can't believe that most of you would be unfamiliar with this type of situation (at least being the witness of one). Giving a slight tap to a shin pad is pretty tame compared to the stuff MacKinnon has allegedly done at practice for rookie D-men giving shitty passes, as in taking actual slappers at them.

After Patrick Roy the Avs have years of experience with fantastic goalies who happen to be basket cases.
