Added benefit of Georgiev starting 3rd straight is that Henrik tastes backup role and feels how uncomfortable it makes him feel. Perhaps it will induce King to retire at end of season and allow for Georgi/ Shesty tandem going forward. Given where we are in rebuild and with salary cap that appears to be best goalie situation going forward. Let's have a true meritocracy regardless of past heroics!

Definitely good idea to start your own thread on this.

Henrik is still a pretty good goalie and I expect that he will finish out his contract. That said I think Georgiev has surpassed him already and if I were Quinn I wouldn't hesitate to play Georgiev as much or even more than Henrik.....or at least if he thinks he'll win more games that way. I really don't know how all this is going to turn out though because Igor is also playing great.

Nah hank will finish his contract.
Disrespectful thread tbh

It's not a disprespectful thread. Hank has been paid a crap load by the Rangers. He shoud do the right thing unlike David Wright who stole money for years from the Mets. Georgiev is clearly the better goalie. If I was Hank I would try to work a trade to the Canes whose goalies are AHL fodder and where he could actually win a cup. Or retire and work a deal with the Rangers where they compensated him behind closed doors and gave him a job in the organization. This should be the last year of Hank's career. He's a proud guy and I don't think he will be happy as a backup. That's what he is right now.

If only the Rangers had a say in paying him a crap load of money....

It's ridiculous to expect that Henrik Lundqvist is going to retire at this point in time. He is very much still a legit NHL goalie. I see Alex as a better goalie at this point in time but when crunching their numbers it should be kept in mind that the Rangers are playing better for Georgiev than for Henrik. To wit the two goalies have played almost the same number of minutes--Henrik 335--Alex 317 but Henrik has faced 213 shots and Alex 178.

Georgie has been great lately but Hank hasnt been bad at all this season. Lets not have another Cambot situation where the backup puts up great numbers and everyone thinks that he is Hasek reborn. Where is Talbot today?
Terrible comparison. Talbot was a career minor leaguer. Georgiev was a young stud in Europe

I disagree with the David Wright comment....

Hank is done and his cap killing the team

he should get "injured" and retire much like i think Naslund did for us. then we can pay him out behind the scenes and he can go play with his brother in Sweden

The King thing has always bothered me. KING OF WHAT??? its pro sports To be a " king" you need to win Championships PERIOD!!!

Seriously? Oh my goodness!

I love how easily people tend to manage other people's assets.

First you have someone who suggests that fans at MSG should boo Staal to send the franchise a message. Then you have gems like this. Calling this stupidity is a gross insult to stupidity.

I don't think this really becomes a hot topic until after the holidays. If the team keeps performing better around Georgiev, and Shesterkin keeps dominating the AHL, I think there's definitely the potential for a unique arrangement. Not necessarily ideal, but unique.

But that's still at least two months away.

Explain how his cap is killing the team. Did it stop the Rangers from trading for Trouba and signing him long term or signing Panarin long term? The answer to both is no. Additionally the Rangers are transitioning to a younger group of players and those players are not expensive to our cap. If there's a problem with his contract it's not the cap it's the NMC clause and maybe depending on how you look at the player the two years remaining term.

That said IMO he's played pretty well. He did kind of lose focus in Boston but that's been rarity throughout his career and probably won't happen again this season.

The 'he should get injured and retire' remark is ridiculous and actually I don't remember Naslund retiring because of an injury. I'm thinking he just retired. Let me ask you though if your boss came up to you and told you he wanted you to leave for the good of everyone else, would you? You might think instead 'well who the f*** are you?--maybe you should retire for the good of everyone else?'

Maybe your memory isn't that good or maybe you're a more recent fan but Richter's last 6-7 years the Rangers failed to make the playoffs even one time. From your post I can't think that you really were all that happy with him towards the end of his career either.

To me, I feel way more confident of a W with Georgiev in net, so that's who I would go with. Quinn isn't overthinking it and going with the hot hand. Eventually Georgiev will have his own struggles and Hank will play more

My question is what does the team do if Georgie keeps it up? On the one hand you have what you are hoping is your future #1 playing very well in the AHL. On the other hand Georgie is already playing great on the biggest stage, and he's only 23 years old. I think the plan has been to move Georgie, but it gets harder to move him the better he plays, no?

If all goes that well, you are probably looking at a very unconventional 3 goalie rotation.
