He led the league in wins last season while leading the league in goals against. He has been fortunate to have a team with insane firepower in front of him getting him wins, but he has proven to not be an NHL starter. He'd be a fine backup somewhere, but someone tell me what is going to happen here and offer us your good goalie and the Avs send you Georgiev +.

3.54 GAA
.867 SV%
$3.4M then UFA after this season

10.9 VGK 5 goals on 16 shots yanked after 2 periods
10.12 CBJ 3 goals on 9 shots yanked after 21 minutes
11.25 TBL 3 goals on 17 shots yanked after 30 minutes
12.3 BUF 4 goals on 8 shots yanked after 12 minutes
6 other games pulled for an empty net to ultimately lose
11 games sub .900
5 games over .900

The Avalanche have too good of a team to waste a season on bad goaltending. What do they do? Who do they pay to take him?

If SJS keeps playing too well maybe they take him on for free or at least give a heavily discounted Georgiev/Blackwood swap?

What benefit would there be for the Sharks to take Georgiev for free? They are currently in a position where they need to move a goalie to make room for Askarov. So that is either going to happen by trading Blackwood for a future asset and an AHL goalie or by waiving Vanecek since I don't think anyone is going to care to trade for him at this stage. If the Avs need to move Georgiev to the Sharks as part of acquiring Blackwood, they will need to attach a 2nd round pick at least and the Sharks would waive either him or Vanecek.

They were able to outscore him for too long, but cant anymore. Its a stretch of an argument, but you can argue between Nuke's cocaine issue and Georgiev, they could be going on a 4 peat currently.
lol,

No way were they THAT good of a team to be working towards a 4 peat if everything went right.

No he would not make a good backup.

1) This isn't NFL backup QB where he only plays if the starter gets hurt or benched.

2) This isn't NFL backup QB where there are so few good QBs that almost all of the backups suck. Georgiev legit would be one of the worst backups.

3) He sucked as a backup with the Rangers towards the end of his tenure. Was a decent backup early on though, but nothing out of this world.

4) He's a malcontent who thinks he's much better than he is so he'll poison the locker room as a backup.

5) With the Rangers he typically played better the more games he got. He sucks coming in cold even more than starting.

Man the Avs really are low on picks and prospects, hard to get much out of them.

Vladar

for

Georgiev
2025 2nd
2025 5th (compensation for eating a bigger contract)

A centre prospect would be better than picks, but besides Ritchie (obv not moving in a trade like this) the cupboards are pretty empty in the Avs system.

Yup. He's got that rare combo of a piss poor attitude while also playing like dogshit. No chance he sticks anywhere as a backup.

He'll go the other way as a salary dump when the Avs finally pull their head outta their ass and trade for Blackwood or Gibson.

But if I'm the Ducks or Sharks, I'm paying him his $3m and telling him to f*** off. I wouldn't want him anywhere near Dostal or Askarov (especially the latter who's shown he could potentially be a malcontent as well).

He'll be in the KHL once this contract is up

Two options.

1st, and most likely. He is included as a cap dump in a deadline trade for a goalie upgrade.

2nd, and equally as possible - possibly more possible - they try to include him as a dump in a trade and nobody is willing to take him, so he ends up as backup for the rest of the year and through the playoffs.

After this year, his career in the NHL is likely done. I expect he signs to play overseas.

I don't know if Anaheim would want a true backup or more of a 1B guy who would still be splitting with Dostal, but the point is still interesting.

It's really weird. This is the worst player in the NHL. There is quite a large gap. He is like if humiliation were a hockey player. And they keep playing him. So I predict, they keep playing him

Because they are still trying to actively be bad. Georgiev would be extremely helpful in reaching that goal, Blackwood is not. I agree that it would be stupid for them not to try to get something like a 2nd in that swap, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they got less than you'd think
