I think dumpster diving on a Reimer/Dreidger/Rittich type would be preferable to having toxic George back there. Let Dostal ride out the year, see how he does, and potentially look for a higher end backup/1B in the offseason

- He'll be a toss in on the trade (Avs won't pay much of anything extra to dump him though)
- He'll ride out the year as a #3 or AHL #1
- He'll be traded separately

I'll go one even further. You could argue that if they had iced consistently elite teams they could have won every cup since 96.
The Sharks aren't trying to actively be bad. They are rebuilding from the teardown of the past few seasons now that Celebrini and Smith are on the roster. They're trying to improve themselves to compete sooner rather than later. That's why they traded for Liljegren. If they were trying to be bad, that's not a move that is designed to do that. The reason why they would move Blackwood is to open a spot for Askarov. Straight swapping any goalie for Blackwood either wouldn't open the spot for Askarov or is pointlessly acquiring someone like Georgiev to bury him for Askarov. If it's the latter, they're not just going to do that shit for free. They can keep Blackwood and demote Vanecek if that's what it came down to. If a team wants Blackwood, they're going to need to fork over a 2nd round pick and a goalie that can take Askarov's spot in the AHL. They have no reason to move Blackwood for anything less than that.
Swap him with another asset or two at the TDL to a seller who has a a goalie on an expiring deal. Cross our fingers. Flush another season. Just my guess.

While his caphit 3.4, his actual salary is 2.9, so he's not going to cost a 1st or Ritchie, as some have suggested, to dump especially if it's closer to the TDL.
He's on an expiring contract. It won't cost much of anything to dump him at all. Those people are out to lunch. The Avs got Walker and dumped Ryjo with another year on his contract for a late 1st.

We have plenty of 2nd's already
If we move Mrazek it should be with retention and for a better asset. Hawks retaining Mrazek at 50% gives acquiring team a very cost affordable #1 next year on top of playoff run this year
Moving Mrazek for 2nd doesn't seem worth it as Hawks can hold onto Mrazek for next year and have good chance of getting a 2nd in next years TDL instead

Fyi, Georgiev is a FA after this season so you'd have to re-sign him, and in no world is he currently worth a 2nd or 3rd.
The Kahkonen-Vitek swap was a below average goalie on an expiring deal for an injured goalie with an extra year and a 7th round pick. A Georgiev-Blackwood swap is both players on expiring contracts but Blackwood is not going to be valued like either of those goalies then.

It is very unlikely the Avs get another goalie without him going back or to another team simply due to cap math.
My bet would be the Avs tandem him and Wedgewood for the month of December. Come January once the playoff math starts to look a little clearer for both the Avs and other tweener teams, they go get someone else.
If that someone else is aiming for more of a starter vs another tandem like goalie depends on how Wedgewood plays this month.

It might still be Blackwood, but that made more sense as a now trade as the second goalie to give you a second kick at the can if he did not work out right later.
Blackwood/Wedgewood - though probably better, is not exactly the end goal of a cup favorite.
That said, not sure who will be available that is a clear upgrade over Blackwood. Though every year there is one guy that somewhat surprisingly gets moved, so you never know.
