Man this one hurts. Hurts worse than Comeau, Graves and Grubauer. Absolutely gutted right now.
I still think Graves was a good 3rd pair D-Man. And you got to give him credit for his career.... He earned way more than he should have....

Someone on this team just missed to tell him he is no Bobby Orr....:naughty:

Regarding Georgie: I didnt really work. And to me, there has been a rift in the locker. Not only this season, but long before... I dont know, but that guy never really looked like a beloved teammate....

And i doubt that this will change in San Jose......

He was no Steve Varlamov. That's for sure.

On my keister
I'd like to remember him from his first season with the team. Solid in net, nothing to suggest what Rangers fans were accusing him of, re: locker room poison.
We were all pretty pleased with him.

But then, yeah. Sometime last season he just folded. And it compounded mightily this year. Complete inability to stop pucks, became a huge liability. Got plenty of chances to play through the badness and hopefully get his groove back. Could not do it.

That in itself isn't great, but you can't hate a goalie who merely loses his mojo. That's half of them in any given year.
However, add in his apparent issues in the locker room and you can't really sympathize with the guy.
The idea he has of himself doesn't mesh with reality at all.

Good riddance.

I'm not one to shit on our own players. I never hated George. It was clear to me that he was struggling mentally in one of the toughest positions in sports. I can't speak to his lockerroom presence but there was smoke, so I can only assume some truth to him being a bad team mate. Still i don't hate him but am glad to see us move on from his inconsistencies and extremely low lows. So long George. It was a wild ride, wilder than any of us hoped.

The biggest issue I had with George besides the fact he could never stop the first 10 shots in a game was his lack of accountability. Nobody is asking you to be perfect but it is OK to say you had a bad game and you need to be better. Your teammates will respect you much more and they will be way more willing to battle for you.

IMO that was the main issue in the locker room. He is just not a good teammate when it is all said and done. CMac's comment regarding the two new goalies being home runs character-wise and their fit with the team speaks volume. It was obvious George didn't fit well at all in that locker room.

Good riddance.

As for the new guys time will tell if they will be upgrades on the old guys but one thing is sure and that is FOR NOW they will be fighting hard in front of them to turn these trades into successes.

Year 1 - Great. Behind one of the weaker Avalanche teams in recent memory, led the NHL in wins and had a .918 SV%.

Year 2 - Bad. Led the NHL in wins again, but that was in spite of his play. Frequent childish outbursts on the ice revealed his true temperament.

Year 3 - Horrible. Watching him play was more painful than repeatedly punching myself in the groin.

So who is the board's whipping boy now? You know there always has to be a villain in an Avs sweater.
Fans will complain about Rants every single game and say it's "his worst game he has played as an Av" or something of that nature, you can bank on that one.

No one will reach Georgiev level though.

Guerilla basically confirming the locker room cancer rumors in their emergency pod. Apparently after he swung his stick at Malinski, he was sat down by Parkkila, Bednar and CMac. That seemed to spell the beginning of the end of his time in Denver. He was also, shockingly, not very well-liked in the locker room. He had a tendency to point fingers when the going got tough rather than shoulder any of the blame.

So, yeah. Bye bitch ✌️
Well, that's leaving a lot out. Meghan also said that Georgie did have several closer friends with the team and especially got well along with Mikko, and the very known episode of Mikko yelling "I f***ing kill you" to Georgiev didn't affect their relationship at all.

So yes, Georgiev did have a definite attitude problem, but it's not like everyone hated him. And it should also be pointed out, what Georgiev does with this behaviour is actually not that different from MacKinnon. The difference is, MacKinnon carries this team is the best player on the ice most nights. When you f*** up and MacKinnon yells at you (or even takes a slapper at you at practice, as recalled by Zadorov), people don't have an issue with it. What they do have an issue with, is Georgiev putting the blame on defenders so often, or even most goals. If he was playing like prime Hasek, people wouldn't have an issue with his occasional antics. But when you are literally playing like an ECHL goalie, shut the f*** up.

Was an interesting watch, they essentially made it clear Georgiev was toxic without going all DNVR shit talk. The one part of their conversation I didn’t buy was that Mikko and Georgiev got along so that’s why they would jaw at each other. Doubt that with Mikko telling him “I’ll f***ing kill you”
I mean these guys have known eachother for well over 10 years, played on the same teams, trained together during the offseasons. Both are extremely competitive guys. What they regard as a "normal exchange" might be very different than with you and me. Maybe there has been a falling out, who knows. I just wouldn't take it at face value, after that one scene.

I guess some home-psychologists can make their conclusions about what the reactions from his teammates are to his tribute post to the Avs. If there will be one. If there won't, I guess that will tell something about him specifically.
