And this toon died because i opened a door in a house that had 10+ zombies in it... My longest surviving toon as well at over a day in, in game hours.
Project Zomboid is fun. Too bad the online is still a bit broken so you can't play reliably in groups over 5 people or so, maybe even less. Still, the sheer survival aspect of it is thrilling, and so is having to actually avoid mistakes because
death isn't cheap.
Leveling up a character is time-consuming and tedious. Going through the early grind especially so. Then you have to actually fight your way out of your spawn which, depending on game state, isn't easy nor fun either - doubly so if you minmaxed points on character creation and now you've got a severely underweight character who needs a hug and a cigarette running around in their trainers with a horde of Z's on their tracks.
On the other hand, you can have a neat little group of friends with specialised roles. I was the designated thief of our group, as well as the designated driver. Also, the chef. Nope, not a mechanic. So, I'd run around looking for cars to steal, usually hauling jerry cans of fuel and other accessories with me. I'd have a car with me to put spare parts in, if the vehicle itself didn't run but it had, say, good windows or tyres we could use. If it did run? Tow rope, attach it to main vehicle, bring it back.
During the night or when an area was deemed too dangerous? I was back in our base, cooking. Making delicious meals that we could pack, making sure everything is properly refridgerated and/or frozen, and trying to keep the kitchen somewhat tidy. Once others got back from whatever it was they were doing, they'd usually have a warm meal ready in no time. It was also my responsibility to at least try and make sure they wouldn't just grab the easiest meal out there, like having those bags of chips there in case we needed them, not when we couldn't be arsed to make anything else.
We'd have a carpenter who was expected to pick up metalworking, too, to make repairs and expand our base. Do construction work, shit like that.
Electrician, and I remember they usually liked to pick up mechanics as well.
We ran with a crew of three but the fourth was usually whatever. We kinda wanted a dedicated farmer/forager, which would've come in handy, but usually that fourth was our dedicated Z slayer. You know, someone who didn't mind occasionally re-rolling a character, usually went out in a blaze of glory, very skilled with blunt weapons. Runs a marathon, deadlifts a mountain, will leave a trail of gore and splatter behind. It was hands down the most fun role, plus it was perfect for those who just wanted to come in and smash some heads in without needing to be constantly around for base building and whatnot.
...I need to pick up that game again.
