WC: General Talk '14 — Slovakia

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Three quick French goals, pack your bags Slovakia, an exhibition game versus Denmark and our championships are over.

Nope, this was a young team, lots of new faces, goal was 1/4final max. The coach's contract ends after this IHWC either way and it has been rumored that he will coach Lev Prague in KHL next season.
Overall despite not reaching quarters, most people were pleased with the way we played and the fact that we did not make it further we attribute to experience, just too many young kids. Next year will be more demanding though under a new coach.

We really lost it at the last 3 min with Czechs and last 10 mins with France in games were we were we played great for 40-50 minutes. Lack of concentration / experience cost us, so not worried much about the future of Slovak team, young kids played well.

Yeah, this wasn't such a bad tournament for us as some others between 2008-2011 have been. And honestly a big part we finished the way we did wasn't because our players were young but because our D was rather terrible, which however had to do with all the injuries/players without contract who didn't show up. We were rather unlucky in that regard this year, both in the Olympics and here.

I hope the guys show up for the game tomorrow though, even if it is seemingly meaningless. (which it might not be because higher in overall rankings = more points in IIHF rankings, better seeding for next year).

Speaking about the coach change. One has to wonder who they will come up with this time around. I think all the eligible Slovak coaches have already had their turn (I don't think that they'd go with one of the current assistant coaches just yet), they likely won't go with a Canadian after the Hanlon thing, so a Czech it is once again?

...my speculation
If Slovak - Bokros or return of Filc.

That's why I doubt it will be a Slovak.

Bokroš already has more than one position in Slovak junior/youth hockey, so I doubt it.

And I really don't see hem going back to Filc (and quite honestly don't want to see him again, been there, done that, twice already) and even if they wanted him back I have some doubts whether he would be interested in this paricular job again.

It upsets me that of all the Canadians to hire, they hired someone so bizarre. Yes he has had thimble full of success with Belarus while basically employing anti-hockey, he only had one full season as an NHL coach (was fired almost right after) and was an assistant coach in the WHL. His only coaching experience with a full talented roster was the 2011 World Championships in Slovakia, and that went well. :shakehead

My selections for top 3 Slovaks of the tournament ahead of the actual selections tomorrow: Michel Miklik, Marek Daloga, Ladislav Nagy.

I think Vujtek will walk. I have no idea who should replace him but I hope it won't be Bokros.

Thanks for the memories Miro!

I don't think he will pass up the opportunity to coach in the MS at "home" next year.

I think Vujtek is staying, which is not a bad thing IMO, he's a good coach. He introduced all those young players into a natioal team, so it would be good to have him around to make sure there is continuity to his plan.

I am surprised people here think Vujtek should stay. He made so many mistakes in this tournament that it's hard to believe.

1. picking Mihalik over Stajnoch
2. putting Valach on the PP
3. saying after 3 games we are playing to avoid relegation and dismissing the chance at the QF
4. not pulling the goalie against Sweden even though he had the perfect chance with more than 2 minutes left and a faceoff in the offensive zone
5. all the time saying how the team in inexperienced and basically creating alibi for himself

If the coach doesn't believe in his team, the team cannot be successful. To hell with that kind of a coach. The coach of team France made his players believe they can beat anyone and look at them.

we better hope you will sign in SZLH as future coach of Slovak NT...it seems nobody has any clue what was wrong, but you know it all! :sarcasm:

1. even Chara wouldnt help that crappy defense
2. oh yeah, i believe Ceresnak could do better on PP than Valach :shakehead
3. we WERE playing to avoid relegation! after lose against France, it was clear that QF is only a dream
4. yeah pulling goalie to get man advantage...but why? our players werent able to carry puck to O zone and our puck possesion, when we finally managed to get there, was even worse...
5. they were inexperienced so i dont see a reason why he needed some kind of alibi...from first game it was clear

Mr. Youknowitall do you know that France team is playing every year with same roster? No big superstars, except few skilled players but their chemistry was something our team could only dream about...im sick of people like you :help:

1. yeah, the defense was crappy, but that's no excuse for picking a total tool
2. maybe he could, Marincin definitely could, even Stajnoch if Vujtek had taken him. Valach's shots were either wide or blocked.
3. well, call me a dreamer then
4. only because any other coach in the world would do it. The question should be why not. What is there to lose? Does he not trust his players? France pulled their goalie down 3-0 against Russia.

let's review Vujtek's results. One silver medal, which was a huge success, gotta give him that. Almost a miracle. Then a lucky QF in 2013 where it took him 7 games to realize defensmen are no good in the slot on the PP. Then the disaster of the Olympics where we were outplayed and beaten even by a lower division team. And now this. The result itself is not a total disaster, but the way he accepted defeat just doesn't sit well with me. We should aspire to do better and any time we don't make the QF, it should be viewed as a failure. We have a reputation to uphold.
