Stranger Things season 4 is intense. I'm four episodes in and this is next-level from what I remember previous seasons.

This site on mobile trying to jump me to my last read post but ads at top of page, bottom of page, then top of content, then video in the middle of it all that jumps me back at least 3 posts, then one of the others has to change based on the newest ad. f***ing Whackamole stuck on Parkinsons mode. Someone should invent a less obnoxious way to read twitter content.

It's brutal. Not to mention the auto-play videos (with sound) that play like 30 seconds after the page loads sometimes.

I saw top gun 2 today, and it is a lot like the first one. It was a must see movie theater movie for me (flight deck ops and jets, just take my money).

The wife liked it but was a movie she would have had a better time if it was on the tv at home. I go to all her dang Marvel movies at the theater, so she can suck it up.

I loved it! Very well done! As you said, a lot like the original, but mostly in tone... wasn't just a rehash.

I did like how they remade many of the iconic scenes from the first movie. It wasn't forced but fit the flow of the movie well.

I felt like Fred Savage in the "Princess Bride" is this a kissing book (movie) scene all over again.

Wasn’t a big fan of the original movie, but will go if the flying scenes are good enough. Knew the guy who played the tough guy Major? In real life, Mike Ironside

Oh, the flight scenes are better than the original. They do real justice to the intensity of high G maneuvers too!

The makers of “Top Gun: Maverick” have released a new video showing how all of the amazing flying footage was taken. What's amazing is that in this age of computer-generated special effects, nearly all of the airplane flying in the upcoming sequel is real—except for one scene.
The Navy also allowed filmmakers to place six “IMAX-quality” cameras in the rear cockpit seat of an F/A-18F, the two-seater version of the Super Hornet. This is how the film captures the illusion of Tom Cruise and other stars of the film actually flying the plane. The actors are actually in the plane, just sitting in the back seat while the real pilot is in the front seat.
One interesting clip is footage of a Super Hornet flying what appears to be a series of forested valleys. This could be a part of VR-1251, a designated flight route from the Pacific Ocean through Northern California, then Oregon, then ending at Naval Air Station Fallon in northern Nevada. Here’s a video of an actual Super Hornet pilot flying the route:

One scene that appears to have been filmed and then altered with CGI is the shovel-nosed SR-71-like aircraft Tom Cruise flies in the second trailer. In the Paramount video, it’s clear the scene is shot with a Super Hornet flying low over the camera crew. This was apparently changed in production to a mysterious, high speed airplane. So there’s at least a little bit of CGI in the film, but the great majority of Top Gun: Maverick's flying footage appears gloriously real.

The flying scenes were well filmed. You can see the G's they are pulling. For me the best flying scenes were at the beginning and the end.

I know way too much about the F/A-18s and did several detachments at Top Gun as maintenance when I was in the Navy. I wasn't in the air but knew the missions/exercises the pilots flew just from getting debriefs (pilots really like to brag) and what was wrong with the aircraft (pilots also blame the aircraft/systems when they fail) when it landed. The movie is realistic in the planning/ops part of the move that is at Top Gun. I know I said to myself strain gauge at least half a dozen times. They are annoying to replace.

The dogfighting in 18's isn't great. It's not what the airframe was really designed for. It's more of the A (attack, air to ground) than the F (fighter, air to air) jet. They still had a couple of quality scenes during the middle of the movie.

As a side note I totally geeked out over the LGBs and FLIR (my babies and a total PITA).

That's one of the real differences in this movie too... they aren't out there just learning "dog fighting" tactics like the original. They know they are flying what is quickly becoming considered an inferior plane in today's world. The plane just happens to be better suited for a single high risk mission that needs to be completed vs a 5th generation fighter which would be preferred in most other scenarios.

Yes, they had some dog fighting scenes in the middle, as that was expected a bit in the mission profile they're training for, but the rest of the mission training and the mission itself took up far more screen time.

That's what I was really concerned about when I first heard about the sequel... how do you do a "top gun" sequel without rehashing the original? They found a great way to do it! Original story with different plot points and a different end goal.

Loved how they worked Val Kilmer into the film as well... great scene!

There are some canyon runs at Fallon that are pretty crazy too. I've only seen the grainy FLIR videos of them though.

The SR-71 is such a cool and iconic jet, it would be picked apart by aviation fanatics. I can see why they would CGI it into a different prototype jet for the movie. That Mach-10 jet is closer to sci-fi than reality right now. It was still awesome to see and dream about though.

@Uberdachen I found Shrekfest. If there is a place to find your Shrek with three giant square buttholes for wheel-arms. This is the place. Home The website is ummm, well, you can describe it better than I can. You've been warned.

It's like I ordered a super size Shrok souvenir cup at MorkDernold's, hit each flavor on the Corcle Colon dispenser, and waterboarded myself. Would make a great 1C fill-in.

Bruised tailbone. Holy F you don't realize how much you use your tailbone until it hurts with everything you do.

Yes!. Did that one many, many years ago. Was on a breakaway, and was pulled down violently from behind. Tailbone Landed on the tip of his skate. Was walking like a 90 yo for weeks, and i was in my teens.

Pooping hurt like hell, too.

Done that... hurts for sure... but not as bad a pulling your groin. The bad thing about a groin pull? After a couple weeks you start feeling "mostly normal" to the point where you may even forgot you pulled it... until you suddenly try to take a normal walking stride and it feels freshly pulled instantly as the sharpest/deepest pain shoots right through you. That serves as a fresh reminder to walk like a penguin for several more weeks.

Having had both, I'd have to disagree. Tailbone hurt me far more, but the groin took forever to heal. Decades later i still don't have full mobility in my right groin compared to my left. Apparently there is some scar tissue there which simply isn't as pliable as unscarred ligament.

I simply couldn't play with the bruised tailbone. Mine was pretty bad- black and blue for weeks.

Having had both, I guess my groin was more painful due to it being more sever, since it was also partially torn. Yes, the groin took forEVER to heal!

I watched a video review of it with 3 former Top Gun instructors. I'll see if I can find it again, but they rated it 9/10, 10/10 and 9.5/10. One guy said something like, 'I've literally done 90% of those maneuvers.'

[EDIT]:

[EDIT]:

I like when he says about the mission profile they created for the film... "I don't know how I would have planned it any different".
Also, he didn't say "I've literally done 90% of those maneuvers", he said "Everything they did in a plane in that film? I've done myself!"
