Between Google and Samsung, restoring lost data has been pretty easy. What Google was missing Samsung had...
I used to be a 'new every two' guy. Basically just skipped 1 model release, got the next version. The prices on them went nuts. Didn't realize how long ago it'd been since I got the one I have now. Got an S8+ in 2017, which in current tech is a dinosaur. But the last few times I looked (last year and then a few months ago, think they were the s21 & s22), a new one was in the range of $1100 or $1200 and there seemed to be an unusual amount of poor reviews for the most recent model. So, I said, 'F*** that.' It's probably nearing the point where I'll have no choice, but those prices are asinine.

I haven't been up to date on Samsungs, or any other phone besides Apple. If they're following the same trajectory, year to year models aren't really upgrades. Most the the models Apple releases from year to year are just upgraded cameras. I understand that it might be useful for some but the general populace won't notice or need the a 26 megapixel camera versus the previous year's 25 megapixel.

I just upgraded my Samsung S8 to an S22. I was pleased with the performance of the S8 and it served me well for 6 years, but towards the end it just wouldn't take a charge and was no longer getting system updates, so I was forced to upgrade.

i had the iphone7 for almost 6 years till it finally broke due to my child, so i bought the newest i could, iphone13 pro max. must say the battery life almost 2 years later is still amazing and the TB of memory comes in handly. still not disappointed in it. should last me another 6 years at this rate.

Who is your provider? At&t has a trade in deal, you trade yours in, you get a new s22 for free.

I was waiting for spring, but I didn't get the choice myself. I don't see why the s22 wild bee reviled. I've got everything working perfectly now. Even eliminated the double tap inconvenience to unlock the the guy in store didn't know his way out of. (One of the reasons I was not a fan of losing the home button, the s7 home button was also it's fingerprint reader. One press both woke and unlocked the phone. Got this one doing the same now with the in-screen ultrasonic fingerprint reader. One touch wakes and unlocks the phone)

The device is absolutely blazing fast compared to the phones you have and I had. I agree with you though, paying the amount you do for these, you want to get your money's worth. I definitely did with the s7. Unfortunately my s7 was not in working condition, so I didn't qualify for the trade in deal and paid full price for the phone... which was right around $800 (I don't like large phones, so had no desire for either the s22+ or s22 ultra. The s22 is only marginally larger than my old s7, and that is mostly in length not width so it's hardly noticeable.)

This is one of the pics I just got from my sis who lives near Orlando. She's got a couple of inches of standing water in her house.

Dang hope she is safe. I read a story this morning about someone trying to book a B&B in Tampa and they didnt understand why the owner said no.

She says she and her cat are fine, just a bit waterlogged. The power still works, but she has the breakers flipped off. The worst has passed her and just need to wait out the rest of the rain and wait for the water to recede. Then she can get an actual look at the damage to her place (it's a rental).

FIL lives 45 mins north of Tampa on an inlet. They had a pretty big surge, but no damage to his place. Just waiting to hear from the MIL, but she's so far south she should just get some a normal rainstorm.

good to hear.

Sanibel Causeway is wiped out. I can't imagine the devastation on there, and even more so, on Captiva, which was almost directly in the eye of the storm, and the first to be hit. It'll take years to fix up some of these areas. I saw pics of Pine Island, which is protected by those two outer islands, and it was in really bad shape.

So, are Gators floating around in the water, as well?

I have family that lives in Port Royal in Naples and we're waiting on news and someone to get over to the house but in the downtown area of Old Naples and the Royal Harbor area, it looked pretty gnarly with the storm surge and cars floating around and water above car level. Devastating.

Yes

In Florida, if there is standing water, you should assume gators are in it... more often than not, there is.

It's funny how little changes can be so annoying.

On the Glaxay s22, the clock is on the left side of the status bar... after more than a decade on the right side... can't stand it!

Luckily, Samsung has an app called Good Lock, which allows you to resolve this major annoyance! :D

I have staff on my team that live in other states and I have someone that lives in Orlando. She had to vacate to the Atlantic side and it was damn near as bad for her there as it would have been in Orlando. Incredible storm.

Bought a proper drone about a month ago. It is a lot of fun but still getting the hang of it. It’s more photography/videography based than the true high speed/maneuverability ones. If anyone was thinking about it, would highly recommend. I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro.

Built a Pi-Hole; it's amazing. Pretty much no more adverts from anywhere, on anything.

what is that?

Pi-hole is a general purpose network-wide ad-blocker that protects your network from ads and trackers without requiring any setup on individual devices. It is able to block ads on any network device (e.g. smart appliances), and, unlike browser add-ons, Pi-hole blocks ads on any type of software

You don't need a Raspberry Pi, you can install Raspian on "any" old device.

Additionally, you can set it up as a permanent VPN, if you don't want ISPs tracking your usage, or could be set up as a Home Automation system (Home Assistant), if you have a lot of smart devices
