Good for Poulin. Glad he's doing better.

Good for Poulin. Glad he's doing better.

I understand we are on a hockey site... in particular one dedicated to prospects, mostly. And that we're disappointed that Poulin didn't pan out but I'm truly happy to see him choose to address his mental well being which is so much more important than a game. A decision wise beyond his years.

I don't want to overshadow the success of Poulin's break and his fight through mental health issues, but I'd really like to know the nature of how being sent down from Pittsburgh went. This would have been under Hextall and Sullivan. Sounds like the kid took it pretty hard, obviously, and he wanted to stop going to the rink. That's a pretty abrupt change in mentality and attitude. While I get professional athletes putting pressure on themselves to a potentially detrimental level, I can't help but see that as a red flag from the NHL front office / coaching standpoint. Like, what was said to him? Did Hex and Sullivan absolutely eviscerate this kid when they told him why they were reassigning him or what?

When I listen to SC, they talk a lot about how coaches have to communicate different with players today than what they did in their day. I would suggest it's potentially one more pin in the "fire Sullivan" voodoo doll.

His demotion and panic attack were about a month apart.

I understand the players feel like they let Jarry down. Nobody is going to confuse the Pens for a good defensive team this year, but at the same time don't tell me they wouldn't have 23-25 wins right now with a better goalie than Jarry. Look at the SEA game. They start well, get a PP, and then Jarry lets in a goal that cannot go in. Even the second goal wasn't great. That wasn't Vince Dunn beating him, it was Oleksiak. That would be like Graves beating a guy clean. Even the shootouts they lost to FLA and CBJ - yes, the shooters didn't do their job either but neither did Jarry. Look at that bronze game at the WJC with both goalies making save after save.

This team has gone 7-2-1 in a 10-game stretch before this season. Maybe this is a turning point for Sullivan to change it up and get them playing a more balanced game. They are capable of it, they did it at times last season which is why they had some shutouts. We all know the talent is there to score, especially if Malkin has the legs like he did vs Seattle. The PP has been great. Now it's time to play better all around and hope that Ned and Blomqvist can give them timely saves.

PS - I do find it weird that Ned was the guy down the stretch last season when they went on their hot run, but Jarry has gotten the lions share of the starts this year despite being worse (and Ned hasn't been that good either, but Ned has the ability to make big saves).

This team isn't going anywhere. While I didn't like Jarry, Ned is not some big save Goalie either ... they are both bad. the teams bad, and the coaching is even worse.

This looks like the last few Sullivan teams with different rosters. Badly coached teams look like random dice rolls and that's what team is every game. Completely random.

Yeah changing goalies will probably bring a bit of a bounce but it’s just going to mask the problem for a short while before it falls apart again.

But better late than never, I suppose, except if you actually wanted the tank.

talking about how bad the team is just seems like a distraction. No one who criticizes Jarry claims the team is good. Why aren't people complaining about the overall shittiness of the team, or of Sullivan's horrible coaching, when the bottom-6 players are criticized?

Because those players are still shitty, regardless of the rest of the situation. Jarry is a turd. The people who defend him are hardly better. At least he gets paid to suck.

I think a lot of the defense was hope that he could play himself into a trade out of here, not an actual defense of Jarry as a contributing member of this team.... I think, that was my defense of him anyways. Same for Graves, and every other underperforming member of this team. Except for Acciari and Nieto, I just don't like what they offer at all.

Tonight will be a tough one…no GDT yet but “The Pens are just 1-3-1 in their last five trips to Buffalo”…horrible stat…we make UPL look a Vezina finalist all the time…you think we missed the net against Seattle, just wait until you see us do it in this game, along with the obligatory chest snipes lol…doesn’t matter which goalie we have in net

I complain about how shitty we are and how bad Sullivan is and how much I hate our bottom 6 all the time.

I damn near change my little mini-quote thing to "Nieto should not play another NHL game for the Penguins."

I said this yesterday but a lot of what we complain about is secondary as nothing making Sid, Malkin, and Letang 10 years younger. We're at the end of this era and these are the trying times before the bottom falls out. It happens to every team. Even Wayne and Mario got old. Jagr did but also didn't at the same time.

About the only major change that could maaaaaaaaaaybe turn it around is canning Sullivan.

saying everything sucks is perfectly valid. Everything does suck.

But there are still people saying "it's not Jarry's fault, the Pens just suck!"

This take is way more prevalent on Reddit than here, at least I think it is. I've sent most of the Jarry simps on hfb to the void

Well there's your problem.

Ha... I remember years back you and me and a few others getting DK to (further) melt down on the Pens sub over on reddit because he came stomping over there after writing some horseshit puff piece on Disco or something in that vein and even the pom pom wavers were crapping on it. Good times.

Stay away from Facebook then. There are still plenty of people that think Sullivan is the best coach in the league. Another faction believes we need a couple enforcers to add some jam.

The average fan is stupid. Sad to say that, coming here, you are actually getting a higher quality of fan that can discuss the team. As sad and as scary as that is given the proles that lurk here.

That's not even counting the people still clamoring for MAF

I mean, i would have signed him a couple years ago to finish out career, and i don't really like him.. But he was and is better than what we currently have

Difference is those freaks want him just for his smile and goofiness
