Geno says he's not retiring after this year despite some local speculation from the likes of Mark Madden.

Also, he only wants to play for the Penguins and does not plan to play professionally in Russia.

Hopefully Geno stays stateside and just spends time with his son, chilling on beaches and stuff.

Interesting note there that Malkin hasn't decided whether he's retiring after next year. I don't mind them going on a year to year basis with Malkin and Crosby, but I really think they need to put Malkin with Crosby if they're going to do that.

Trade Rakell in the off-season, move Malkin up to Crosby's line and just keep giving Crosby and Malkin 1 year deals until they retire.

Yes please to pairing up Sid & Geno on a line.

Let Mac Swanson center line two.

Yeah like I just posted in the salary cap thread, just keep Malkin-Crosby-Rust together until they decide to retire and rebuild the rest of the team around them.

It maximizes Malkin's value and also gives you an easy out for justifying trading Rakell. I know some people have said they want to keep Rakell to help Crosby produce more, but sliding Malkin up to L1 to play with Crosby eliminates that argument entirely.

I am just reiterating for clarification that we are all in agreement that it is possible to develop a player who is an AHL/NHL tweener, by making them a full-time NHLer. It is also possible to develop a player who is an NHLer on the 4th line, by making them into a player who can play further up the lineup.

I also agree that Hextall and Dubas have not brought in developable players to the same extent that Rutherford did. I do wonder what Beauvillier would be like with another year here. I think (and hope) that we trade him, but I wouldn't mind if he signed here again next season on another one-year contract. He's still young enough that something interesting could feasibly made of him.

Pretty sure he's into the South Beach lifestyle. I've seen several pics over the years of him fishing and stuff.

He's wealthy enough to travel back and forth to visit family - start/sponsor youth programs etc. I'd be shocked if he doesn't "main" his Florida property.

“More than any other reason, though, Sullivan remains in Pittsburgh because of his bond with Crosby. The captain doesn’t want to play for any other coach. To Sullivan’s credit, he wants to stay in Pittsburgh for the duration. He wants to be running the show when the Penguins are good again.

Last summer, the New Jersey Devils wanted Sullivan to be their head coach. It wasn’t a particularly well-guarded secret. The Devils are young and loaded with talent. Newark is much closer to Sullivan’s native Boston, where he could be closer to his children and grandchildren. It would have been a perfectly understandable move.

He wasn’t interested, though. His loyalty is to the Penguins and, more to the point, to Crosby.“

For those minimizing Sid’s role in keeping the failed coach here lol…

Crosby would still be among the greatest players in history if Sullivan never came along, of course. But let’s not forget that the Penguins were a floundering bunch in 2015, having gone six straight postseasons without winning a championship despite boasting arguably the NHL’s best roster in many of those seasons. Then along came Sullivan.
My goodness, Yohe is a sycophant for the ages. When exactly did the Pens have NHL’s best roster between 2009 and 2015?

"best roster"

JR deserves more credit for helping build Crosby's legacy than Sullivan.

I was reading these stories about Mike from blokes that knew Hon and then about Sid as a leader for Canada and then you see articles by Yohe reminding you Sullivan is a God in his sad little life and that Sid and his relationship is something he really needs you to believe is a thing and super special or some shit.

Like that sad f***ing loser thinks this is the most special coach and player duo to ever exist. The team has been shit under this coach for a while, he's likely never getting fired and is the worst coach for a team in a rebuild/retool mode that needs to help younger players and do more development - things he absolutely is f***ing putrid at.

But hey, remember lads, in Josh Yohe's wankjournal he keeps beside his bed, the bond between Sidney Crosby and Mike Sullivan transcend 4 Nations Tournament.

Being excited for young players is like the biggest waste of time with this franchise. It is a waste of time.

Ah yes the article that pissed me off.

Yohe wants us to believe that shit. I don't think Sid will ever say anything bad about any coach. Not Therrien, MJ, Disco, etc. Yohe has a micro hard on for the f***ing dipshit Sullivan. Writes Tumblr fan fic levels of shit about Sullivan every chance he gets.

If you look at his sad history of articles at Athletic, you'd think he was a Sullivan fan that just sadly has to write about the Pens as well.

Honestly looking back on it, what Disco got out of this team with the rosters and injuries he had to work with, he made the team look far better than it was and when they did show the weaknesses in the roster that Shero failed to fix often, Disco got a shit load of heat by the media. Some he deserved, a lot he didn't. But I respect Disco a f*** ton more than I ever will with a f***ing low life piece of shit like Sullivan.

You ever notice Yohe is the only one that has ever said Sid said it's the only coach he'd play for? It's always Yohe or another brown nosing corporate mouth piece with zero integrity like him.

Also that NJ shit is something I still don't buy. So the Devils were gonna trade for Sullivan? Something that hasn't happened in this f***ing league since 1987, 2 months before Sid was born. Yeah we are to believe that horse shit?

It's funnier knowing Rob Rossi of all people literally debunked Yohe's horned out belief the Devils did and even Dubas said they never requested.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have not been asked for permission, nor have they granted permission, for the New Jersey Devils to speak to head coach Mike Sullivan, Penguins president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas said Tuesday.

“There have been no requests and no permissions granted,” Dubas said in a text message to The Athletic.

Devils literally hired a better coach.

I still laugh at his assertion of "Coach them when there good again..." - That shit ain't happening for your boy, Josh. Like he wants us to believe Sullivan is going to get them back to good, lol they're missing the playoffs again this year and will again and again as long as Sullivan remains.
