Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

Locmelis is killing it so far in Providence after a successful NCAA career, I think we have a player here.

Another good late pick by Sweeney and co. He’s scoring at a similar rate as pasta, obviously won’t be the player pasta is but his game reminds me of Point a little bit. I can see him continuing to elevate his game and challenging for a spot in camp. Excellent he’s on wing and exceeding expectations there because it opens up a lot of options for him on the big club roster

Edit: he’s actually out scoring pasta right now but pasta played 25 games so we’ll see where he’s at when the playoffs are said and done

DiPietro looked rusty with two soft goals against. Hopefully he regains his form before the playoffs (only 2 reg season games left though). If not, Bussi has shown he is a capable #1.

Misyul scored his first goal but also took two penalties. I don't trust him enough at this point to start him in the playoffs (assuming Mitchell and Callahan return).

A first round bye is looking unlikely but that might not be a bad thing. In recent years when they've had a bye, they seemed to have trouble finding their form after the time off. A first round against a weaker opponent could also give the Boston returnees time to readjust and hit their stride heading into the second round (hopefully).

What is the line-up looking like for game 1 w NHL guys back down???

I’ll take a crack but I’m sure Mougenel will have something different that really highlights getting Pat Brown on the ice in all situations. Also, I’ll leave out Merkulov since I don’t have a clue if he’ll be back.

Locmelis — Poitras — Wahlstrom
Lysell — Minten — Lettieri
Viel — Brown — Pitlick
Tufte — Farinacci — Duran

Callahan — Mitchell
Brunet — Wanner
Miysul — Gallagher

DiPietro
Bussi

That looks pretty good to me. Blueline looks a little shaky, but that's four lines of forwards with players on each who have played substantial NHL minutes.

I hope they see some success this year. Get Locmelis, Minten, Poitras, Lysell, etc the feeling of meaningful wins. Good for the long term health of the Bruins.

Also would throw Brunet in here. He’s a lot of fun to watch on the backend.

Studly. I hope they draw Springfield I’ll go to every game

Emergency means guys have to be sick or injured. I hope there is a strong tank-flu floating around the room. It does seem unlikely in the final home game but maybe they had sometime to think about it after watching the Patriots. It wouldn’t shock me to hear that Jacob’s and those above Neely support this tank. It would be a shame to waste the precipitous drop that was achieved.

They called up 2 and sent 2 down. Barring some significant other call ups, I don't expect them to sit a dozen players in the final game

Tankitis is going around, nasty bug

I know Locmelis has been putting up pts and while I never expect all forwards to have an elite 200ft game mostly because I believe allowing a player play to their strengths, how has his game without the puck been because we also can`t just allow a kid to completely ignore defensive responsiblities

he's very good. He's the whole package generally, and we're seeing that come to fruition now that he's scoring despite it being against better competition.

IMO the Bruins could call him up today and he'd do well in their last game. But, if they want him to eventually become a top 6 guy, he needs more reps seasoning and marinating in the A...which Is why I hope Providence makes it far this year.

Locmelis is generally what they hoped Koko and Forsbacka Karlsson would become. A late diamond in the rough pick that projects as a top 6 center at best, a third line guy who's reliable and can score at worst.

Locmelis is a two way player. He even throws his body around. Thats why coaches are putting him on the ice for all situations. His defensive game is legit. His shots really good. His edges are good his passing is probably his best offensive asset. Good at faceoffs at the college level we will have to see how that translates. He was a key part to latvias success during International play. Played a key role in latvias men’s team winning a bronze medal. He even got an apple on the game winning overtime goal if I remember correctly. The fact that he was on the ice in overtime on the men’s national team during that bronze medal game tells you a lot.
