Providence Bruins General Discussion thread ‘24-‘25 II

For Locmelis, the real challenge will be next year. It's exciting to see him play well but I've seen too many prospects step into the AHL, make a great first impression in the last 6/8 games of the year, and then dissappear in the following year(s).

Locmelis is playing like someone who deserves a spot in the playoffs...I just don't know who would come out of the lineup. Here's what I thought the forwards would look like a few weeks ago:

Merkulov-Poitras-Lettieri
Wahlstrom-Farinacci-Lysell
Tufte-Brown-Pitlick
Viel-Minten-Duran

Tufte would probably be my pick but B's likely want his size and experience in the lineup. Farinacci hasn't been as productive since getting hurt but his play earlier in the year earned him a spot. Maybe Lettieri doesn't get sent back? Maybe Merkulov misses time with his injury?

It will be interesting to see what happens if the PB's are still playing when the World Championships start on May 9th. I recall seeing something about Locmelis wanting play for Latvia...would he leave the team in the middle of a playoff run? If he isn't playing then OK but what if he's an impact player for them? I guess we'll see how it shakes out in the coming weeks.

Went to the game in Hartford and boy Locmelis is a player. Aside from the haul of points, does a lot of the little things you want. He’s shifty along the boards and battles for every pick, makes a nifty escape when he needed to and pinned it when he needed to. That kid will make the NHL imo

Potsy was Potsy. Drove a lot of plays and continues to develope.

Bussi made an INSANE out of net dive across save to keep the score 1-0 providence at one point and eventually the flood gates opened despite the pack’s tender’s best efforts

Non hockey highlight of the night was a Middle Aged woman Habs fans absolutely crushing a beer to Livin on a Prayer on the Jumbotron in the third. Crowd goes wild. Never cheered for a Hab in my life and that’ll be the last time, she was a riot

Are Potsy and Loco similar players? What is Loco s skating like?

Have the bruins committed to Pit? He stood out when I saw him in Toronto last month.

I hope they're not committing to him. He's a 33 year old journeyman AHL/NHLer. They signed him to a one year, two-way contract in March. That's not for next season though. I'm fine with them bringing him back for AHL depth but that's all he should be for the Bruins.

I would say for me, skating is the hardest to judge, unless a player falls all the time or is outright slow. It’s a bit easier to judge defensemen on that note because of the way they move and pivot and track players

What I would say is Locmelis didn’t show a ton of top line speed, but the game was pretty tic tac through the neutral zone, lots of active sticks disrupting plays so no one really got to burn up and down the ice (on that note the bruins were locked in with eachother passing wise and made it really hard for Hartford to get the puck out) but he did show a lot of good edge work and was strong on his skates, he also found a lot of open ice and moved into good spots quickly so plays could develop or continue

I think he’s gonna be a keeper. Can he adjust and develop as a center or will he be kept on wing from his natural position will be a question?

The other thing that I liked about that last night is he didn’t look out of place at all as a wing, where as potsy hasn’t looked good on wing up in Boston
