Carter wasn't producing last season, but I still thought he was a very good bottom six forward for us. He shouldn't be getting regular 3rd line minutes, however, he's a high end 4th liner and a competent role player on the 3rd line. His PK ability, competence with the puck, center/wing versatility, physicality and willingness to drop the gloves make him more valuable than some might think.

Carter was a better PPG and ESP/60 producer than Bernier last year.

If we can't win tonight and can't beat the Rangers on saturday, I can almost garantee Pete won't be behind our bench against the BlueJackets on tuesday.

I'm honestly crossing my fingers that we'll drop both games, leaving the road wide open for someone like Guy Boucher. He coached Hedman into a legit top pairing d-man and I can't say I have faith in DeBoer regarding Larsson.

Another area he can drastically improve our team is the PP. Boucher is a PP mastermind and despite not having the best of weapons at his disposal, he would get the best out of that bunch, I'm almost 100% certain of that.

Boucher was simply fantastic when he coached the Bulldogs in the AHL and knows how to work with young talent. I wouldn't be shocked one bit if he came here and played several youngsters over certain slow veterans.

I agree with this if true, but get rid of Lou too and it's perfect.

I love when you root for the team to lose just to try and get your way or it somehow fits your agenda.

Even if we drop both games Pete is likely safe until at least Thanksgiing.

I've been rooting for this team to win since day #1 and they've showed me that with our current head coach, it ain't happening for more reasons then one but I'll just give you two...

1- Horrible personnel decision.
2- Utilising a system that doesn't work anymore since we're too slow to throw a heavy forecheck at the opposition.

If Pete isn't fired if we do drop both games, Lou needs to go as well. This train wreck of a situation is on Lou just as much as it is on DeBoer. Our lineup is basically a bunch of misfits that got picked up during free agency in order to patch a team that was already shaky.

Our defense hasn't been upgraded in years and that's one of our main problems since we don't have the horses to keep the other team pinned in their own zone when going on the attack. The gaps between our forecheckers and our d-men is just too big and that's why we're seeing a circus show in the neutral zone for the past 2 weeks now.

If you want to forfeit a top #5 pick (another HUUUUUUUUUUUGE mistake by our Gm), then by all means, let's fit your agenda and keep DeBoer behind our bench. If that's what you want, you better not complain when Fayne bolts this summer or if Larsson is nothing more then a 2nd pairing d-man since we've basically crushed the confidence of a kid who's shy as **** and probably doesn't have anyone who'll lift his spirits in terms of a "big brother" role, since Moose or Tallinder are no longer with us.

Despite what DATW says, I don't think the owners will get rid of Lou regardless of what he does or doesn't do with Deboer. They are about as Hockey-Savvy as Allen Iverson would be.

Plus, they just bought the Devils basically. The time for evaluating Lou would begin NEXT offseason anyway. The fact that Lou potentially got our Next Goaltender for the next decade in Schneider is a Major Plus on Lou's side which might keep him from getting the ax for the time being, going forward.

Boucher's teams in Tampa sucked at possession, and they lucked their way to a 2011 conference championship appearance on the back of Dwayne Roloson.

No thanks.

Just like we lucked our way to the finals a couple of years ago.

Boucher will bring structure to this team and will adapt according to the roster that is put at his disposal. We need a more "defensive" system and that's what Boucher will bring since we can't go all out on the forecheck with all the slow veterans we're icing ATM.

Is he the dream coach we've been waiting for since Pat Burns stepped down, maybe no, but he'd be a way better option over DeBoer, that's for sure.

Just the simple fact that he'd probably dress the best possible lineup would go a long way and the fact that he isn't shy about working with kids is another massive bonus. If we're going to screw up every single 1st round pick we've made cause we want to go to war with veterans, then let's just trade our picks for immediate help.

Having Josefson, Larsson, Fayne and even Tedenby on short leashes plus losing a 22 year old threw waivers when he would've bump a couple of "veterans" who are currently playing in our lineup does what for the progression of our prospects? At some point, you have to trust the kids you drafted cause losing them for free and not being able to send them down in the AHL so they can actually play cause we'll lose them threw waivers as well, is called brutal asset management.

All I have to say is that if we miss the playoffs for the 3rd time in 4 years AND we have to forfeit a top #5-10 pick, he better get his walking papers.

Again, Lou has been TREEEEEEEEEEEEMENDOUS for this organistion but just like Marty, people don't stay on top forever.

It's not Lou's fault that Kovy decided to retire.

It's not Lou's fault that Zach decided to get married to Mrs. Suter and move to Minnesota.

It's not Lou's fault that Travis isn't living up to his contract.

It's not Lou's fault that Henrique has yet to show any semblance of an offensive game.

It's not Lou's fault that Marty is 41 years old now and isn't the player he once was.

Only the Volchenkov contract falls on Lou....

And besides, the FACT that he managed to acquire Schneider to shore up a position that is and has been a CRITICAL component of the Devils franchise for decades, will prevent him from getting "his walking papers" no matter what happens this year.

Next year, though...All bets are off because he WILL be on the hot seat if the Devils miss the postseason this year.

To me, that sounds like a bunch of excuses, sorry.

Maybe our Gm got caught off guard with the IK situation, I'll give him that but regarding the rest, it's on him and no one else.

The second Zach inked that one year deal, the writting was on the wall. You don't waste a entire summer trying to resign the heart and soul of our team only to come out with a one year deal making him a pending UFA the follwing summer. Add to that equation that our Gm doesn't talk contract during the year and you had a receipe for disaster right there.

I don't get the "we went to the cup finals with Zach, so we were better off keeping for a year and getting nothing back". Good, I'm stocked we went all the way to the finals but like Zach showed us for several seasons, his game didn't go up a notch at the most critical juncture of the season and before IK arrived, we were nothing else but a solid team during the regular season and easy pushover when the playoffs got underway. Is the blame of our multiple 1st round exits rely on Zach and Zach only... of course not but your best player has to be just that and he wasn't.

It's not Lou's fault that Henrique or Zajac aren't producing but if we gave them better linemates to work with, like they had in the past, they might actually produce like they've done before... no?

Again, Lou's job is to build a contending team and despite going to the cup finals a couple of years ago, we're a borderline playoff team for the past several years now. We had a Edmonton/Carolina finals like 10 years ago, yet, both teams struggled to even make the post season after that so playing in the finals doesn't garantee you success the following years and that's what we're seeing out of this team presently.

A poorly built lineup with a coach that is going to sink or swing with the veterans at his disposal and when you're at the bottom of the standings and you still can't win with your veterans, then something has to change but he just keeps throwing out the same losing lineup game after game.

Well I'm saying that in going back to your original point, I just don't see Lou being given the Heave-ho by the owners after they just acquired the franchise....at least not this year.

Though I'm sure he'll get an ultimatum soon enough if things do not get better...I doubt Lou is that oblivious.

It's only six games but one thing the Devils need to get in order is their PP. It's been atrocious.

http://www.extraskater.com/teams/2013/5v4

The Devils are last in the league in Corsi% while on the PP, and by a WIDE MARGIN. 28% of the shots attempted on the ice while the Devils are on the PP are from the other team.

Our PP will be better when our Gm will eventually realise that we need someone to QB it. Those types of players are hard to find but it is possible.

I've mentionned the name of Brian Campbell several times and despite his heavy contract, he'd be a real solid fit on our blueline. Let's just say I'd rather pay Campbell 7.1M$ to play around 25+ minutes per game while QB'ing our PP then 4.25$ to #28, who'll play 15 minutes per game and still turn the puck over more times then Campbell despite playing 10 less minutes.

We have about 14M$ coming off our cap next year and adding a "salary dump" player like Campbell can be a solid option for us IMO since the price won't be that high because of the contract he holds.

My dream scenario would be for us to send #28 the other way (cap dump) with a prospect and a pick. We'd kill two birds with one stone right there.
