Yeah I gave you a lay up and I'm not being condescending as that comment was somewhat rhetorical. I guess what I was saying is how can people become so tribal over a bunch of bullshit that's mixed in with a few scraps of reason.

The two party system WAS good for political transactions that were a compromise but it's not anymore. We're never going to get the will of the people until people truly care and educate themselves. The only thing the two major parties do effectively is pit the American people against each other. Their common denominator is the almighty dollar.

All the anger with the media and political parties is an admission that most people truly don't give a shit.

I think to a large extent we get the government we deserve.

If people don't like the extremism they see from both political parties the best way to end it is to vote in the primary elections. Primary elections have the greatest effect on the make up of the candidates put forward by each party in any election.

This is an impossible challenge because the any answer is opinion based.

The problem is that any answer to this question is subjective based upon one's views. Anything that doesn't agree with one's personal views these days is "slanted or biased" to the left or right

My two factors are
1) Consolidation of media in to a handful of companies owning it
2) 24 hour news networks. This is the bigger one IMO and there is only so much news in the day. So their strategy becomes to bend the truth in either direction to shock, enrage, madden viewers in to wanting and needing more rather than good old simple objective reporting

There are studies that show how right wing people are more reactionary and get triggered so they become 'addicted' grievance radio like Rush. Liberal people are more difficult to corral. There should be protection in the legislation against lawsuits related to contracting COVID while at work.

I'll leave the ideological arguments out of it but the biggest problem with the media in this country is the fact that 90% of news outlets are owned by six corporations. Corporations exist to make money. Media makes money by selling advertisements. They'll feed you whatever bullshit that sells the most ads. As far as bias goes, there is bias in everything except raw data and facts. But even when that is presented there is still opportunity for bias as it's often the stories the don't get reported rather than the ones that do where the real bias exists. It's also somewhat naive and complete laziness to think you'll be informed by watching a 30 minute national news broadcast or watch cable news. People don't read and that's generally where the facts are hidden. More sources means more facts and you can also decipher the bullshit far more effectively. Most people would rather watch some hysterical ideologue screaming at the TV about how the other guys are going to send the country to hell in hand basket.
