3 deaths in OC today, all non SNF
1010 positive cases today, since yesterday was "catch up" this is our new record
12.5% positive tests
224 cases in ICU- this is awful and way too high
659 cases currently in the hospital

Tues: 3
Mon:0
Sun:3
Sat : 0
Fri: 3
Thu: 4
Wed: 3

the rolling non- SNF death rate is down to 2.28, that is our good news for the day

that is for starting play.
They are doing training camps until then

Feels like it is too little too late. NHL really dropped the ball on this.

They should just cancel the season, do an awards show, get the draft rolling. Let the players focus on themselves and get healthy for the next season which is right around the corner.

Yeah that seems real bad but are deaths really lagging that badly? Everything says cases are going up but deaths are going down. Feels like we're setting up for a big fall.

I expect deaths to go up but maybe not exponentially at least until ICUs are overwhelmed or at high capacity for a long time wearing out and infecting staff.

Younger folks so lower risk, better treatments, more experience, all little things add up for a massive difference. Also allegedly less deadly version of virus etc.

Believe me I'm not writing this off and I'm pissed that a f***ing mask and shitty leadership is the difference between what's happening here and what's happening elsewhere but I'm hopeful that this will serve as good news rather than a harbinger that everything is fine and people start f***ing off even more.

Hell, at this point forget the awards show as well. I will watch if they play, but if they do play it's strictly a TV tournament which allows them to keep the money from this year's TV deal.

They are saying the youth are getting infected and they are also reportedly getting better at fighting it

But the youth getting infected means that they will infect the older and more susceptible people, so there will be lagged deaths from them

Where is that site info LT Dan? I'm curious if they have the info going back farther to pre-CV19 months (before March 2020).

Yeah I mean I get that infection rates among younger people are rising and that’s to be expected but young people don’t typically end up in the ICU, and once you’re there it seems like you might as well start packing your bags for the afterlife.

At my doctor friend's hospital in OC, total hospitalizations and ICU admissions are basically the same as they were last Thursday. It had been rising rapidly.

This is awful news
Highest number of cases yet
ICU cases are blowing up
7 deaths today, 3 were SNF, so 4

Rolling 7 day
Wed:4
Tues: 3
Mon:0
Sun:3
Sat : 0
Fri: 3
Thu: 4

thenon-snf death average creeps up a little because a 4 replaced a 3 . it is 2.42

Ughh. My doctor friend told me that total hospital/ICU admissions being flat over the last few days as I mentioned in my early post is actually due to an increase in deaths offsetting increased admissions. Apparently a spike in deaths in the past 24 hours. Or at least data updated in the past 24 hours.

It's not the apocalypse, but it doesn't signal an improving trend. Things are getting somewhat worse in OC.

It's much worse inland apparently, in places like San Bernardino.

So if the death spike happened today then we will see it in the county reports tomorrow or Friday

Hospitalization dropped today so this could be 10 deaths on top of the 2-3 average? Ouch

Not what I see in the news (re: hospitals remaining flat).

That was specific to one location in OC only. Admissions are increasing generally and we basically had the highest death toll ever yesterday in So. Cal.

My doctor friend says deaths are generally unhealthy people, i.e., obese, diabetic, high blood pressure and/or heart disease.

I was looking at some stats and 94% of deaths are people over 50 and 77% are people over 65.

In April, positive tests were 30% under 40. Last week it was 50%. They aren't going to come out and say it, but the protests (in addition to stupidity in the general population re masks) are playing into these numbers.

That is what I keep seeing in the news myself. "Doctors puzzled why so many younger people are getting infected with Covid19". You know it's as if there was a gathering of younger people a few weeks ago all over the country, but man I just didn't seeing anything in the news about it. Its not possible that after all these people contracted it they took it home to mom and dad or grandpa and grandma. Instead lets blame opening up too quickly. I at least have to give Newsome credit in his press conference yesterday when he said the reason positives were high Tuesday and Wednesday was because of delayed reporting because of the holiday. However major news articles state "Seven day average positives SPIKE in California."

It's not an either-or situation. More people out and about, coming into contact with others more frequently. It's the protests, it's the bars (when they were open), it's businesses reopening, it's more people going back to churches, it's a bit of everything.

But chanting, shouting and singing, shoulder to shoulder, with hundreds or thousands of other people for hours is an easy way for it to spread.

No info on deaths, but COVID admissions at my doctor friend's hospital in OC are up 8% from yesterday. Up 16% from yesterday at affiliated hospital in San Bernardino.
