No. 13/14 Men’s Hockey ties Cortland 2-2 On Senior Night - Buffalo State Website

Buffalo, New York - 13/14 Buffalo State was unable to convert a two-goal lead into a victory as visiting Cortland battled back to earn a 2-2 tie in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Ice Arena. Buffalo State now has a record of 15-5-3/8-3-3 - while Cortland's record is now 8-12-1/3-8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Buffalo State was the aggressor in the opening frame and jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead. Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, Ontario) opened the scoring with a back-door tap-in off a feed from Ben Butcher (Bellingham, Washington) for his sixth goal of the season. Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) extended the Bengals lead with his sixth of the season on a rebound off Mac Wood (Simcoe, Ontario) shot.

Cortland dominated the second period, outshooting the Bengals 13-4 and cut the lead in half with a power-play marker midway through the stanza. The Red Dragons netted the equalizer just 1:29 into the third period and neither team would score again. Cortland finished with a 30-26 edge in shots on goal, including 3-1 in overtime. Ian Sylves (Sloan, New York) finished with 28 saves. Michael Faliero and Tommy Nolan scored for Cortland. Drew Weigman finished with 24 stops.

UP NEXT - Buffalo State will end the regular season next weekend with a trip to the North Country, taking on Plattsburgh Friday and Potsdam Saturday.

So far in the Michigan-Michigan St. game, Hughes has offensively been a dynamo and has an amazing goal (will try to find video shortly). He also has a Sabre-esque blown assignment in his own zone allowing the Spartans goal.

Wolverines win it in a shootout, 2-1. Hughes got a chance in the skills competition but was stopped.

Frederic's line and Mittelstadt's line aren't facing up on one another much, but this past shift Casey made a nice d-zone play, broke up ice on a feed from Glover and gained the Badger zone. He dished and went to the net, providing a nice screen on a point shot Hayton made a nice save on.

Minny is struggling again. They are getting pinned back on the forecheck regularly.

I like that they broke up Gates and Mittelstadt - didn't think they had any chemistry.

Very nearly finds it on the rebound too. He's looked good tonight, but again... it's #19 Wisconsin. The competition level is certainly a factor but he's looked good.

I love the individual stickhandling skills, but the Gophers need to cut to openings to make any of that one-man show by Casey worthwhile.

Good D on that backcheck too... he's dialing up his defensive game lately.
