U18: GDT: U-18 WJC Semifinals

Difficult 2nd period for Finland.
Annunen has been very good and also Finland's defence has been very good too.

With better luck for scoring chances this game would be 3-0 or 4-0.
Finland has taken only one 2min penalty which is really good.

But 3rd period can change everything.
Sweden won't give up that's for sure and next goal will be huge for this game.

Great game. Annunen was great, and this was the most consistent game so far. No huge dips in play to let the opponents back into the game.
 
I can't believe Sweden didn't pull their goaltender when they had the puck in the offensive end and there was less than two minutes remaining.
 
Viva la vida! The Swedes left gasping mouths open, eyes empty while the triumphant Finns proceed deservedly to the final. Something's been done right in the Finnish junior hockey during the last decade indeed. Congrats, kiddos and all the coaches involved directly or indirectly.

But what on earth happened to the Canucks? Lost to some second tier team??

Sweden didn't really play poorly or anything (apart from the first period and their failure to get to the front of the net) but what they did today was just about the least imaginative junior hockey I've ever seen. Coaching change in order, perhaps?
 
Yes we made it, 4th straight U18 gold medal game for Finland.
Annunen was very good today he took big saves always when it was needed but also Finland's rock solid defence deserves credit too.

Sweden fight hard and made this game difficult for Finland but it wasn't enough.
Pity Nordgren couldn't score in empty net last seconds but maybe tomorrow he gets few goals more.

Whoever we'll face in gold medal game tomorrow that team should play their best game in tournament to beat this U18 team Finland.

Tommi Niemelä has done excellent job with these guys and when Jussi Ahokas is done with U20 team Niemelä has to be next U20 head coach Niemelä if any coach deserves a chance to coach these guys again in 2020 world juniors.

These Nordic rivalries between us ( Finland) and you ( Sweden) are always exciting games.
There's no better rivalry in hockey than Finland vs Sweden.

Tack så mycket Sverige.

USA-Czech might get just ugly when the game goes on. USA doesn't have the same kind of offensive difficulties than Canada had.

Hughes is just a treat to watch - every single time. The next Patrick Kane.
