Is it just me, or does it seem like the Swedes are having an awful lot of their shots blocked/deflected by US defensemen?

wow, kessel gets MUGGED...no call. AGAIN.

This reffing is attrocious. Kessel is getting mauled every time. Thrown down, tripped, etc.

Horrible officiating.
No. There's nothing wrong with playing physical hockey. Kessel is getting thrown around because he is only 17; a highschool kid playing against kids 2 years older than him.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the play, then.

He didn't get "thrown around."

The Swedish defender wrapped his arms around his neck and tackled him. It was another in a series of non-calls...made worse by a pretty sad dive by Stralman to draw the penalty.

The good thing for Russia is that both teams spend a lot of energy in this game. I hope our boys didn't drank too much on new years eve :speechles

How does McGuire get away with letting his personal vendetta against Robert Nilsson affect his work?

The guy hasn't been having a bad game at all and has made some great passes, yet every time he's on the ice McGuire is all over him, calling him lazy and selfish and making everything he does sound terrible, even when he's making good passes and taking decent shots.

He's got to lose the hard on for Nilsson.

Ive seen a ton of calls that could have gone against the US as well Reivelle. You cant call it one way and not the other.

A ton? A few, yes. But there have been a lot of BLATANT tackle-esque calls getting blown against Sweden that should've been called.

It was a lot better in the first period, being pretty evenly reffed. This period was awful. Hopefully the third will be better again.

If Russia plays their game they should beat either team. If Russia plays a defensively sound game the States and the Swedes dont stand a chance with that offense. Especially all these bad turnovers at center ice by the States. The Russians are too dangerous.

So, going in to the third Sweden is trailing by one and is outshot although not by a wide margin. If they don't manage to win, I'm actually quite satisfied with that. There is no shame in losing to a great team like the US. As long as Sweden show that they are good enough to compete at this level I'm happy. Reaching the playoffs is actually a significant fall forward for the Swedish team, and I'm sure there are more than one player on this team capable of reaching the NHL.

I think your just blowing things out of proportion man. I think the refs are letting both teams play here.

I'm fine with slashes and the occasional boderline hit.

But not bodyslams...

Like I said, your blowing things out of proportion. I havent seen any body slams what so ever and if there were any, they would be called. There letting them play. If your complaining about the Swedes then wait till you play the Canadians :)

Oh, I watched it. It was in the Swedish corner before Stafford and Savilathi-Nagander got penalties.

It was near the slot, actually. And it definately was not just some rough play. Kessel got tackled. Body slammed. However you want to put it. It was an awful non-call.

It wasn't a bodyslam.. it was merely the strong Swedish defenceman doing his job; by taking out his man. The player he took down (Kessel) is young and weak compared to these players. I gotta agree with Alex Kovalev... you're blowing it out of proportion, a bit.
