This is the first elimination game at a best-on-best tournament between Canada and Russia in at least 15 years, maybe even 20 years.

The last meeting at the Olympics goes back to the final of the 1992 Albertville games when Russia won 3-1.

Last world championship meeting was the semifinals of 2005, when Canada held on for the 3-2 win after being up 3-0.

Last World Cup matchup was the final of 1996 I *think*, don't remember the score.

WC2005 : 4-3 Canada

WCOH2004 : 3-1 Canada (round robin). Last elimination game : Canada Cup 1987 final

Bring it on! It's going to be a great game, I can feel it. Of course I want a Canada win but I'll be happy with just a great game. No blowouts either way please. Bring your best game and leave the excuses at the door :D

The team with the better goalie on the day wins and my feeling is that the better goalie tomorrow will be canadian.

4-1 Canada.

Russia hasn't done anything significant in a best versus best tournament since the Canada Cup was around. Canada comes to play for real when it is all on the line, I'm not worried too much about this one.

russia's D must be MUCH better. Dmen have been weak, even on offense. canada may be mediocre, but they usually were playing vs strong team D.

the canada vs czechs game should give russia more hope; canada was badly outplayed even tho czechs didn't have great D.

looks like afinogenov has stopped giving puck away every shift. that's good. PP still needs much work.

only datsyuk and malkin and, to a lesser extent, kovalev, have looked really good. korolyuk has been good, even before today.

seems like outside of datsyuk/kovalev, russians can only score on odd-man rushes. i still like the idea of putting either ovechkin or kovalchuk w/ malkin.

i can easily see russia getting crushed. but canada has been mediocre, so i can also see russia winning.
should be great game. :jump:

Yeah, Russia has only won 2 medals (1 silver, 1 bronze) in the past 2 Olympics, while the other nations have won so many more! :sarcasm:

Canada better wake up now.

They were lucky today that Vokoun was shakey. This is for real now.. If they play their A game, they will win.

Anything less than 100% will equal a loss.

We win this one. Simply because the 14 year long dissapointment should stop one day. And this one day is tomorrow :yo: :yo:

You think a team that was runner up 8 years ago, third place four years ago and fifth or sixth at the World Cup last year intimidates everyone?

Where I come from, people don't consider results like that very good at all.

yes you're right. but Switzerland really is the most intimidating team right now!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last umpteen times Canada and Russia met, Russia did not have Alexander Ovechkin or Evgeni Malkin on the team. That makes a world of difference, and I don't think Canada will overcome that.

nah. apparently they were already on the team in Nagano. And people still blame Gonchar for Henderson's game-winner :sarcasm:
