I'm pretty sure I've said multiple times that Schmaltz is the most talented forward on the team, and that he was among the best players in the league when he goes inside. He also doesn't consistently go inside, and very consistently shies away from loose pucks, board work, and contact.

Well hasn't he been going inside when he's been playing with the short leashers? I honestly don't know but you said something like this in the last GDT.

With Keller / Garland / Schmaltz who is the shooter?

...

Exactly. Maybe Schmaltz realizes it might be him so he has to drive the net. Garland will drive but doesn't have enough offensive awareness to do it effectively (at least into high traffic areas with a disguised shot). Schmaltz has the awareness but hasn't shown the willingness to continually take the hit. That's my opinion anyway, prove me wrong

Dvo has really elevated his prowess at the dot. I've always suspected it's a thing you learn as you play more and play against opposing centers over and over. Start to understand their tendencies, learn how to cheat wins against new centers, etc.

OK as a former goalie -- on that semi-breakaway right there notice how far out of his crease Raanta was to cut off the angle. And because he cut off the angle he went in the butterfly a quarter-second sooner than he had to because there was nothing for the shooter to shoot at. Panger talked about the 5-hole (listening to the away feed) but Raanta knew what was coming so closed it up sooner than the book says to do so. There was no 5-hole because Raanta read the play and shut it down.

Took too long for me to write that. TL;DR Raanta was next level right there. And this is after he's barely played in the last year or two.

He might actually be good we should all consider that as a possibility
