GDT: GDT: Game 10: Coyotes @ Blues - 6PM - FSAZ

RABBIT

AKA Turd Ferguson
I thought the team played well tonight. Like @XX said, the Blues have the players that posses the skill and killer instinct that we just don’t have.

Schmaltz looks great
Dvo looks poised and really seems to be flourishing
Garland is our best player
Raanta could make an argument for number one if he could stay healthy
Bush looks like an NHLer
Pitlick is exactly what we needed
Kessel is off and on but a much better player than I saw last year.

I have hope for this team, I’m just not sure Tocchet is the guy to lead them. I would love to keep Tocc as an assistant, I think he’s a good dude and can really flourish in a smaller role.

That being said, this team will not be a playoff threat without a number one center.

I’ve liked Raanta more than Kuemper this season. Kuemper has been fine but he really needs to be God mode every game, as unfair as that is, if we are to do anything.

He's been p. good but I'm not sold it's permanent yet. There was zero consistency to his game just last season. Toasterle could come out at any time.
I was working and didn't see tonight's game but he's been a very serviceable 5/6 D and on rare occasions looked good in the top 4. I like him enough that I don't b**** about him lol.

I’ve changed my mind on Oesterle. He makes some dumb plays every once in a while but he’s an excellent puck mover. Like a Yandle-lite

I think he is more of a Seth Jones sugar-free/zero calories lite. He is much better in all three zones than Yandle, but doesn't have the same offensive upside. I look at the Blues or Nashville and how they develop their blueline prospects/acclamation projects so well. Sometimes it takes many seasons. But they often manage to get top four value out of players who are past their prime, or projected bottom six and depth guys. Helps them save cap space to spend in other areas.

I don't dislike Oesterle, I'm actually pretty pro Osterle on the whole. Though I do enjoy making fun of his gaffs, which in the past two seasons were not few and far between. We've got 2 seasons of him being extremely inconsistent and earning multiple games worth of scratches in a row, much more so than him looking passable in the top 4. Him playing really well for a 10 game stretch isn't really that unusual. Get back to me after another 20 before we say he's progressed or not.

He’s actually 5’6”

That's about what I assumed, I'm 5'6" and he was just a few shades over me in skates at ice level.

He plays well when he's not the best defenseman on the pairing. He can't anchor a pairing. He's great with his stick, great in the neutral zone, good with his positioning, decent moving the puck. When the puck gets deep, then it gets dicey...

OK as a former goalie -- on that semi-breakaway right there notice how far out of his crease Raanta was to cut off the angle. And because he cut off the angle he went in the butterfly a quarter-second sooner than he had to because there was nothing for the shooter to shoot at. Panger talked about the 5-hole (listening to the away feed) but Raanta knew what was coming so closed it up sooner than the book says to do so. There was no 5-hole because Raanta read the play and shut it down.

Took too long for me to write that. TL;DR Raanta was next level right there. And this is after he's barely played in the last year or two.

He might actually be good we should all consider that as a possibility
We all know Raanta is an elite goalie when healthy. Injuries the past two years has killed his value.

He always has been a excellent puck mover, it's his D play that needs improving.

Blues got 3 goals 6 on 5 and only 1 against, seems pretty lucky to me for the Blues more so than the Coyotes being bad.

We owned them and out played them most of the game which is good. I do suspect, like I have in the past, that the Blues took us lightly and didn't play as well or as hard as they could, had they been more focused. Having Bush in the line up helped our D, getting OEL back will help some more. I am mostly glad to see point production coming from young forwards, Schmaltz/garland/DVO, they might all be taking the next step, and that could go a long way to cure our scoring issues.
