Ok, Canada is the better team and thats what we all expected. I just hate the fact that they always seem to get away with a goal that should have been called off. In the first goal the player was clearly in the crease, he was even kneeling in there. No question about it, its NOT a goal. But who cares, Canada will be the better team and win, and they deserve to. I just hate those random goals that are allowed because "it's just the canadian style". I wish we finns would create a style where one guy would work as a quarterback, throw a high puck to the "receiver", he would catch it with his hand and rush through the goalie and then it would be a goal.

The second goal was a great example of the difference between adults and kids playing. The whole show started from the Canadian end where nobody challenged the Canadian D for the puck. They probably could have kept it for the rest of PK but he decided to shoot it in Finland end anyway, and then a kid panicked.

I was impressed how well Finland did 5 on 5 and if you dont count that last stupid mistake

Can someone PLEASE tell me, what the **** was Hietanen thinking on that SH goal, when he just stood on Seitsonen's side behind the goal!

Nobody will ever know. However, goals exactly like that will kill the team tonight. Totally unnecessary. Without any more that kind of stuff happening, this still might develop into a good game though.

Shots were 19-8...

and they were 9-8 at one point. At that point, Canada was fighting the puck in the neutral zone due to the Finnish Left wing lock. The latter part of the period Canada outshot Finland 10-0. They dominated the last part of the period, but didn't play so well in the first part.

you sure? TSN reported shots as 18-5 right before Richards scored that goal, and then there was another shot on net before the period ended.

They reported at about the 12 minute mark that the shots were 9-8 Canada.

iihf.com has it listed as 20-8.

True.

It's nice to see though, that I wasn't the only one, who thought that the first goal shouldn't have been taken into account...

The Finns had much more energy and were all over them. .
The Finns were all over each other on that Richards goal.

Cautious first period with Canada capatilizing on two fortunate breaks is how I'd describe it. To say the Finns were 'all over' Canada is laughable.

Finns came to play, started off well, but Canada seemed to pick it up sa they established their forecheck. They are too much for the Finnish defence.

He did seem clearly in the crease, but they arent using that strict interpretation of the rule anymore are they?

My bad. I swear someone said 18-5 with a minute left.

That's ok. There's often all kinds of weirdness in how the shots are counted too, like the European way and the North American way.

iihf.com shows 20-8 Canada. To clarify, only playing half a period, regardless of the score is a horrible period in my opinion. To be fair though, the Finns had a lot of energy for the first half of the period and the Canadians didnt seem to expect it and couldnt match their energy level. I don't think they can keep it up for 40 more minutes though.

Yeah. Finland was forechecking hard and playing a tight lock, but I think the reaction that sprung the 'Finland is all over Canada' sentiment was that Canada was only up by 2-0 at the end of the first while most people expected 4-0 or 5-0 with 40 scoring chances.

I think it's good that Canada is saving a little gas for the single elimination rounds.

I'm happy with the Finns, considering 9 of their 22 players will be eligible to play next year too, including Tukonen, Korpikoski, Nokelainen, Joensuu, Laakso and Korhonen (Laakso, Joensuu and Rask in the year after that as well).

They're getting a valuable experience here and that's all that matters. We'll see them in the World Cups and World Championships in the future, winning us medals, I'm sure. At least, that's what I'm trying to tell myself.

What like measured in metric ??

No :) Don't know the details, but in the past those figures used to be often different in European and North American newspapers documenting the same games.

Watching Carter take wrist shots like that he really looks Nieuwendyk to me. Flyers look like they got a good one there. Carter-Getzlaf-Ladd, gotta love that line.
