But ya that New Years eve game was about as fun of any sport you can watch.

The biggest heartbreaks in hockey seem to be vs Canada for us. This is just like the semifinal at the Olympics in Vancouver when Demitra was robbed by Luongo at point blank range. This time it was even closer, because the Canadian goalie made that game winning save for them in OT.

RIP Demitra, one my favourite players of all time.

I think you severely underrate them. These gen of Czech and Slovak players are quality.

It was a gutsy performance for sure. But they hardly won every battle. They won a shit ton of faceoffs but they also had a ton of luck, too.

Maybe you're right and I need to rewatch the game - without my heart racing at 150 beats a minute. (smile)

Fan support wise they would be a great NHL city. Just not enough corporate presence.

They have more than you'd think but it would kill the QMJHL across the Maritimes. Lot of billionaire support from the region goes into Saint John Sea Dogs, Moncton Wildcats, Mooseheads, Islanders, etc.

Bigger problems are infrastructure (getting to games, arena, etc.), population density is spread thin and cheer for established franchises like Boston + Montreal + Toronto, and there's less room for growth amongst new/non-fans

But junior hockey is electric in Halifax. Place is rocking.

Maybe I saw the game thru highly critical Canadian glasses but I was disappointed in so many players who just didn't compete. Slovakia was incredible.

Just because there were Canadian players who disappointed tonight doesn't mean they weren't the better team. There were a bunch of Slovakians who were disappointing, too. Nemec played his worst game of the tournament tonight. Canada outshot Slovakia by 30. They probably had as many quality scoring chances as Slovakia had shots. How many posts did Canada hit? Slovakia battled and they deserve full credit for taking Canada to the brink, but they were hanging on for dear life for a lot of the game.

Except Slovakia and Czechs are and were some of the best teams in this tournament, and Slovakia already beat the US. People need to stop underestimating these countries.
