we have plenty of bottom 6 guys that we can replace the overpaid bottom 6 that we currently have and that would at least be a decent start at re-tooling this team. Fasching and Durandeau are keepers. Holmstrom can find a spot somewhere too, but so far it doesn't look like its top 6.

This is the key. Go cheaper in the bottom 6 with guys who can play like Fasching and allocate more money towards the top end with skill
