GDT: GDT #49 New York Islanders vs Colorado Avalanche | January 28th | 7:30 PM | HULU/ESPN+ Only | F/5-2 W - Five in a row!

I thought Pelech was great tonight. Surrounded by a patchwork defence he was strong on the puck and on opponents.
Likewise Romanov, he looks like he has really steeled himself to step and he is doing so. Glad we have him.
Sorokin was superb. His last few games have been much better...since Hogberg gave him some rest.
Holmstrom is proving many people wrong. A bloody good player.
Off the ice, ESPN very average, Brendan is classes above them. It's not even close.

How I feel when they win 5 in a row…

What about this one?

Romy was great last night. Re ESPN, Brendan is the best, but Bucci's style is not really play by play; it's more like you're hanging with a buddy who talks about the game while chatting you up about other stuff. Acquired taste. I didn't like his style at first, but now have come to appreciate it.

I feel the same way, 1-3 times a year I’m fine with it

Nice win and enjoyed watching the game. We shall see were this all goes but by March 7 this team needs to look long term and act accordingly. I know he was hurt and his game depends on speed, but underwhelmed by Duclair so far.

So I know Colorado is in for a second C (Brock Nelson) but wow that bottom pair of de Haan and Girard, that’s not great. Feel like they should be looking to boost that up. Was surprised to see they’re just a wild card team (all be it comfortably in playoffs)

Anyone still want that first round pick back for Romanov?
Nope possibly one of Lou's best trades as an Isle GM. Love Romanovs physicality. Where has that been the past couple of years. Now its like every game. That bodes well for the Isles. Like the recent acquisitions as well. Maybe the old guy still got something up his sleeve. I find myself on the curious side of agreeing with pretty much everything Lou has been doing lately including still believing in this roster.

It would be cool to go back and look at the Romanov trade thread and watch people pining for a guy we could’ve drafted in the first round that would probably be working at a car wash in Saskatoon by now…

I disliked the Duclair signing from the outset; he’s been in this league long enough that everyone should know the type of player he is - namely, the type you don’t sign long term or for a decent amount of cash. The Duclair and Engvall contracts are Lou’s worst, I think.

That trade may end up being very good for the Isles, who got Romanov and the pick that turned into Isaiah George for their first rounder. Now, that first rounder turned into Frank Nazar for Chicago, who looks to be a pretty decent forward, but I think I’d take Romanov and George any day.

The thing about Romanov is that he brings something to the table. He has a couple of outstanding attributes, that combined are pretty unusual (skating/lateral agility and hitting). For a long time the Isles were collecting guys who were pretty good at everything (but not great at anything), and great in "the room". I prefer building a team full of guys who bring something outstanding to the table, even if they lack some other attributes or maybe have some baggage. Put them all together and the end result is better than a team full of Josh Baileys (no offense, Josh... well maybe a little).
