Team is disgraceful

But hey Lou believes in this group.

Roy needs to be able to fire McClean and Albalin and pick his own full staff. He also needs to start picking players he wants that can play for him.
That is the major problem. I watched Roy frustratingly yelling at MacLean after he pulled the goaltender something to the effect of cmon let’s get things going. It was futile. It didn’t give me much confidence watching Maclean running the 6 on 5. Roy needs to take over this team from top to bottom. His hands are tied. The shit has hit the fan and Lou needs to go! I hope the owners are listening but soon I expect Roy to be replaced by Maclean. You know it’s coming.

No, he needs to be given a chance to do things 100% his way. Lou forcing assistants on him isn’t ideal.
Yes the assistants play critical roles on teams this guy is a loser at this job. He shouldn’t be coaching the PK and we shouldn’t have the son of an assistant coach playing on the team. It’s an awkward situation and all of Lou’s doing and it’s not fair to his son either.

How can Roy take responsibility for special teams when his “assistants” have close relationships with his boss. Rid the team of Lou and the dynamic changes completely.

End the misery. Tough season to watch. Can't imagine what is going through Patrick Roy's mind. Guy was a fierce competitor. The sens looked hungry last night the isles did not.
He must be totally frustrated. In the NHL at least at the coaching level he had little administrative control. That’s why he left the Avs. Unfortunately he’s back in the same situation on the Island. As a player he had a lot of control minding the net and he proved himself a winner on so many levels quite often the MVP. Feel for the guy.

Yup, The Country Club Always Wins....
I love Roy's competitive Spirit, something that just does not seem to fit with what is here among what we have with Lou and his Loser Staff...

So you don't know.

Too many around here want to, for god knows what reason, give Roy a pass and deflect responsibility for the horrendous special teams to his assistant coaches. Personally, I think that is bullshit.

Does a fish not rot head first?

It sure feels like our boys face more than their fair share of 3rd and 4th-string goaltenders.

And yet...

Very rough to play at home and get shutout by a guy who has spent the bulk of the season in the AHL.

Granted, Merilainen has now won 4 of five straight starts. He came in pretty hot.

Still, we barely tested this guy.
1 high danger shot on Meralainen in the 3rd period. Just 1. :shakehead

For the team, yeah, Lou is a train wreck. But, as is always the case with you, you missed the point of the post in order to flag wave for your boy again. The post had to do with Roy's discretion in choosing his assistants. None of us here know if he has that authority or not but some are making the assertion that he doesn't.

I know he didn't choose McClean and Albelin. I don't know if he has the power to fire them.
Right, you don't, and neither do I but you are placing the blame for the weak special teams on them when it may well be Roy's decision to keep them.

Yup
Back to being bad AND boring

Hard sell
AND not playing hard. I usually hate that statement, because how dare we on the couch say something like that...but last night's ENG and not trying to block that shot is shameful.

That's an exclamation point on the death knell for this team and the pending UFA's.

I’m firmly on sell off both Nelson and Palms. But when both of them didn’t even try to block that ENG it got me more mad than anything. You don’t wanna be here, you’re on Zillow looking for the new playoff house. Get out

New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello has made his assistant coaching decisions for the 2024-25 season.

Assistant Doug Houda not returning to Islanders in coaching staff shakeup

You can read right? Because it makes pretty clear who's hiring who. Let me guess... fake news?

Has an assistant coach ever been fired mid-season? It happens to head coaches all the time, but I honestly can't remember an assistant getting canned without the whole staff getting sent off.
