Definitely tired of watching this group of players do nothing. That game was flat out boring; they generated very few chances. And that effort before the ENG was flat out brutal. The three game streak was nice and all but this game was a good reminder of why this team needs to move guys out at the deadline.
Yup
Back to being bad AND boring

Hard sell

While the entire team left was not good enough tonight, I think special mention should go to Horvat, Nelson, Palmieri and Duclair for being absolute trash. There is a good chance this team with improve just by getting rid of Palmieri, and likely Nelson too, who looks like he's already checked out. Far more worrying is Horvat and Duclar who are both here for a few more years. Both of those contracts are already looking like dead weight.
I thought the Defence core generally played well, they gave Ottawa very little. Dobson with a couple of his usual mistakes, but they were pretty minor and that's just expected at this point.

No, he needs to be given a chance to do things 100% his way. Lou forcing assistants on him isn’t ideal.
in this times each great coach is bringing in his own assistant coaches, but Roy is not a great coach so he had to swallow the bitter pills by Lou

all this talk about how close the east is and we are 6 games off Ottawas pace. that means we need to win 6 games when they also lose in order to catch them. there's also another 6 teams between us. it's not happening
The math aient mathin unless they pull off multiple 4/5 streaks.

Lou’s gotta go. He is clearly out of ideas. He seems to be doubling down now on the disaster roster and coaching staff he has created. He’s not doing anything to help the team anymore. Until he goes nothing will change. I can’t fathom ownership allowing him to run this much longer. It’s a huge issue. He certainly csnt be trusted with the deadline.

It just makes me feel hopeless that as bad as they looked tonight and as bad as we need to re tool this roster via trade.. Lou definitely doesn’t feel the same way. It’s honestly just sad at this point.

If ownership goal is to win a cup?
Or to have playoff games in their building?

Distinctly different answers

This team always shows you who they really are. Too many games like tonight, too few like Vegas and Utah.

There's no way Duclair is 100%. He is struggling to get up and down the ice at his usual pace.

And Dobson is a dumb player. Can't fix stupid.

It sure feels like our boys face more than their fair share of 3rd and 4th-string goaltenders.

And yet...

Very rough to play at home and get shutout by a guy who has spent the bulk of the season in the AHL.

Granted, Merilainen has now won 4 of five straight starts. He came in pretty hot.

Still, we barely tested this guy.

Heading into yesterday's game, I had looked at the next 7 games before the 4 Nations tourney and honestly couldn't imagine this team going more than 1-4-2 over this period. Which would be absolutely brutal in light of facing more-or-less direct wild card opponents Ottawa, Columbus, and then Philly 2x.

End the misery. Tough season to watch. Can't imagine what is going through Patrick Roy's mind. Guy was a fierce competitor. The sens looked hungry last night the isles did not.

Barzal isn't struggling quite as much, but he's also clearly not close to 100%

NYI would be in contention for bottom in the league if Anders Lee weren't tearing it up. Palmieri's play is such that I think he's at best worth only a late 2nd.
